Based on Homer’s 2,700-year-old epic poem of the same name, The Odyssey follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) as he tries to return home to Ithaca after fighting in the Trojan War. In true Nolan fashion, the film bounces around the timeline rather than following a straightforward narrative. In addition to Damon, the film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, and Lupita Nyong’o. The Odyssey raised the already high box office bar set by Nolan’s previous movies, raking in over $1.7 billion worldwide against a $250 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo. A significant chunk of that revenue came from IMAX screens, the premium large-scale format that The Odyssey was filmed for. The Odyssey: The Official Screenplay The screenplay is also available as a paperback book. “Once you’ve stepped into this film and let it sweep you up, however, it’s hard to deny the accomplishment that he’s brought to the screen,” wrote Rolling Stone’s David Fear of the film. “You may have no idea how long you’ve been gone after you’ve seen it. You just know that you want to go back again.”
