The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time's Remake Is Already Running On PC

People Have Got The Ocarina Of Time Remake Running On PC On Launch Day Published Nov 5, 2026, 4:09 AM EST Sam Woods is TheGamer’s Senior Reporter. He’s been in games journalism since 2020 and has undertaken a variety of roles in that time. These have included roles such as SEO Editor, Managing Editor at DualShockers, and Global Head of Gaming, and he's also been seen on the BBC. He was promoted to the Senior Reporter position in 2025 following a series of high-quality reports and exclusives for TheGamer. Since 2020, Sam has written over 3,000 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game. Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, provided context on some AI drama, and revealed that Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games. Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on three occasions. He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times. Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises. The rapid advancement of AI tools has enabled older console games to make their way to PC at a pace previously impossible. Gamers worldwide have vibecoded games like Halo: Combat Evolved,Super Mario Galaxy, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai, and Need for Speed Underground 2 into their browsers, and others like and others like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate have made their way to PC. The pace has become so alarming that guardrails have been put in place on Claude to make these types of ports more difficult. They don't seem to have worked, though, and players are up to their old tricks, as on the launch day of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's remake, they have got it running on PC. In what is likely to be a huge legal minefield, players on Reddit are currently showing off working versions of the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on their PC. The game was dumped mere moments after it was released on the Nintendo Switch eShop, and copies have been circulated all over the internet. Some complaints say frame rates will only reach around 24 fps and that it's littered with bugs, but those will likely be fixed in no time—provided Nintendo's hit squad doesn't go nuclear, which it likely will. For years, Nintendo has gone after those who illegally share ROMs of its games, winning millions in damages, and those games certainly weren't as fresh as the critically acclaimed Ocarina of Time remake. Some reports suggest that the OoT ports have begun to be removed, but like Hydra, as soon as you remove one head, more pop up, and the damage is done. It's hardly the first time that a game has been cracked on day one, but it is one of the first times it has happened to Nintendo, and with such a high-profile title. Earlier this year, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, Pragmata, Control Resonant, and Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced were all cracked before launch. In a show of solidarity with the development teams, especially in times of strife in the games industry, many admitted they wouldn't pirate those games. That doesn't seem to be the case with Ocarina of Time, though, as hundreds of comments across Reddit have suggest people are excited to get the game for nothing.
