The Greggs where you can order a beer with your sausage roll

Roughly 3 million Brits fly to the island each year to enjoy its mild climate, golden sandy beaches, and diverse nightlife. And if you’re one of the millions heading there on holiday, you’re in for a treat at the airport. Earlier this year, Greggs made its international debut at Tenerife South Airport, serving up classics like sausage rolls, pizza slices, and steak bakes. But there’s one big difference between this store and the ones in the UK – you can pair your pastry with a pint. Customers can get a 50cl serving of either Stella Artois or Dorada to go with their food. And the best part? It’s cheaper than getting a pint in a pub here. Currently, the average cost of a pub pint in the UK is £4.52, according to the British Beer and Pub Association, though in many places the price has risen well over £5. However, at this branch of Greggs, a Stella costs €4.20 (£3.52), and the Dorada is €3.90 (£3.27). Online, people have been loving the idea of being able to get a beer at Greggs, branding the idea ‘wild’. In response to an Instagram post by @britlife_, @kj95007dw hailed it a ‘Northerner’s dream’, while @its.dan.dd proclaimed: ‘Life has peaked… That’s it. Game over.’ Similarly, @hendo1980 wrote: ‘We’ve peaked as a species.’ And @metres_photography begged Greggs to ‘normalise this’. ‘Bro this made me so happy,’ added @charlieairey. Others demanded the ‘bargain’ prices become ‘normalised’ in airports and said that it was a great example of ‘British culture’ and it felt like ‘being at the football’. Not everyone was thrilled by the combo of beer and bakes, though, as @alax_pulleb declared it ‘deeply depressing’. Other fast food chains serving beer... Greggs isn’t the only chain serving alcohol in Spain – McDonald’s does too. Customers have the option to enjoy their burger and fries with a Mahou beer, and there are also non-alcoholic beer and gluten-free beer options. And at Burger King in Spain, you can also pair your meal with an Estrella Damm. This comes after McDonald’s made some major changes to its menu in the UK and Ireland. The fast food chain unveiled a second round of World Heist releases, including chicken wings and a burger from Spain. Maccies also revealed it’s testing a new chicken product in Ireland, with a hand-breaded chicken trial underway in Dublin. Greggs has also launched several new products, with a new Christmas menu hitting stores here.
