The Galaxy S27's charging speeds are already looking disappointing

Samsung’s next entry-level flagship is undoubtedly on the horizon, but if you were hoping for a major charging upgrade, you might want to temper your expectations.UL Solutions (Demko) in Denmark recently filed regulatory documents confirming that the upcoming Galaxy S27 will be stuck at the same 25W wired charging speed that we've seen since 2020. According to the listings in the database dated October 23, there are various regional variants of the SM-S952 model family for the US, Europe, Japan, and South Korea, all rated for 9V DC at 2.77A, TheTechOutlook reports. That comes out to around 24.93W, or basically you get 25W charging again. That’s Samsung’s usual charge limit for its base Galaxy S models, and it’s the same number as on the Galaxy S26.The Galaxy S27 appeared in Demko’s database with two certificates, DK-187425-UL and DK-187435-UL. There are ten model numbers for the listings, including SM-S952U, SM-S952U1, SM-S952W, SM-S952B, SM-S952N, and more. Therefore, it doesn’t seem like Samsung is restricting faster charging to select markets. The competition is not standing stillThe bigger problem is the length of time Samsung has stuck with this spec. The regular Galaxy S series has had 25W wired charging since the Galaxy S20 launched in 2020. That’s a long time to leave a flagship feature virtually untouched, especially when Chinese smartphone makers are already offering charging speeds two or three times faster. The rest of the Galaxy S27 family, at least, could be more interesting. Previous listings of Chinese 3C certifications suggest that the Galaxy S27 Plus could offer 45W charging, while the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra may reach speeds of up to 60W. The reported Ultra upgrade isn’t a huge leap, but those numbers would make the premium models better off.Samsung could somewhat make up for it with better power efficiency. The regular Galaxy S27 reportedly features the Exynos 2700 for most parts of the world, with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 version supposedly coming to the US. Being more efficient might help the battery last longer, but it won't charge the phone any faster.Get the latest news from Android Central, your trusted companion in the world of AndroidDo note that the latest certifications don’t reveal wireless charging speeds or confirm the phone’s battery capacity. Samsung has yet to officially announce the Galaxy S27, so these specs are unconfirmed. But if the 25W ceiling holds up through launch, consumers might be waiting another year for Samsung to catch up.
