The Emmys 2026: ‘The Pitt’ and ‘Widow’s Bay’ win big

Widow’s Bay, The Pitt, and DTF St Louis were among the big winners at the 2026 Emmy Awards. READ MORE: The best TV shows of 2026… so far! The ceremony took place at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater last night (September 14), with Law & Order SVU star Mariska Hargitay hosting. Many of this year’s trophies had already been handed out at the Creative Arts Emmys earlier this month, leaving only the most high-profile categories for Monday night’s awards. Going into the night, HBO’s The Pitt and Hacks lead nominations with 25 and 24 each, with the latter breaking an Emmy record for most nods ever received by a comedy in a single year. Noah Wyle snagged Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second year in a row for The Pitt, having faced off against Paradise’s Sterling K Brown, Slow Horses’ Gary Oldman, Task’s Mark Ruffalo, and The Diplomat’s Rufus Sewell. Apple TV+’s breakout comedy horror series Widow’s Bay had an impressive showing with 19 nominations, with lead actor Matthew Rhys making history after becoming the first person to win Emmys in two Lead Actor categories in the same year. Matthew Rhys in ‘Widow’s Bay’ CREDIT: Apple His other, in the Limited Series Category, was for Netflix’s The Beast in Me, meaning he is now also the first performer to have won in the Lead Acting category across all three genres, having previously earned an award for The Americans. Joining him in making history was Hacks star Jean Smart, who picked up the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, making her the first woman to be victorious in the lead category for every season of her show’s run.Recommended Elsewhere in the evening, DTF St. Louis won for Best Limited Series, and Supporting Actor wins went to actors from Widow’s Bay, The Diplomat and Task.
