Earlier this week, Bethesda finally decided to chuck a bone to the incredibly patient Elder Scrolls community by giving us our first proper update on The Elder Scrolls 6 in the eight years since it was originally revealed. The new trailer confirmed that TES 6 is subtitled Sentinel and take place in Hammerfell, as we all assumed. Considering how long it’s been since we’ve learned anything concrete about The Elder Scrolls 6, a lot of fans took it as a sign that the game’s release wasn’t as far off as it seemed. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier quickly dashed those hopes with a report claiming Sentinel was still more than two years away, which caused such a fuss that he’s since reached out to the fanbase. “I Am Telling You This Because It Is True” Although the use of another short CGI trailer should have made it pretty obvious that Sentinel is nowhere near being done, the starving Elder Scrolls community didn’t take kindly to being told that there was still a long way to go. A quick look at the subreddit shows just how many people thought a 2027 release was on the cards before being told otherwise. The claim upset so many TES fans and caused such a backlash that Schreier has responded by sharing a post on The Elder Scrolls 6 subreddit that doubles down on and defends his report. Schreier’s post starts off by explaining who he is and why he’s reputable, as well as pointing out how excited he is for Sentinel since Skyrim is one of his favourite games of all time. The Bloomberg reporter goes on to say that he’s seen the reactions to his claim and that, while he understands the frustration, he’s surprised by the reaction since “this sort of thing has happened with every new BGS game over the last decade”. Schreier points out that he’s dealt with this same situation with both Fallout 76 and Starfield, which he refuted details that the fanbase simply refused to believe. After proving that this shouldn’t be unfamiliar territory for Bethesda fans, Schreier explains that he’s only telling fans “because it is true, and because my job is to report accurate facts”, before once again stating the Sentinel is more than two years away. It’s honestly a little wild that it needed to be spelt out, but I guess that’s what eight years of waiting will do to some gamers.
