The Biggest ‘X-Men’ Cartoons Unite in a New Comic

Kids in the ’80s and ’90s came onto the X-Men via the 1992 animated series, and they’ve been feasting with X-Men ’97. Those who grew up with X-Men Evolution have been paid dust since that show ended, but that’ll briefly change this winter. Days ago, news broke that Marvel’s Incursions miniseries—named after the universe-destroying event that’s also the big driving force of Avengers: Doomsday—will see the two groups of animated mutants come together. These one-shots bring together characters from different continuities, meaning the X-teams will face off against one another to determine which of their worlds will survive. Try not to worry right now about whether or not this is canon to the ’92 and ’97 X-Men universes or if these are a separate but similar enough version. © Marvel Comics © Marvel Comics The one-shot will be drawn by Salva Espin and penned by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost, who wrote several Evolution episodes (including “X-23,” the episode that brought Laura Kinney, the fan-favorite Wolverine, to the world). With how committed Marvel currently is to ’97, this probably isn’t a stepping stone to any kind of Evolution revival, however nice it’d be to imagine. But getting to see these versions of these characters again and watch them hold their own against their older, more experienced counterparts isn’t a bad way to start the year.
