Magic: The Gathering's Commander format has grown to become arguably its most popular. Used as a gateway for new players to find the game while balancing casual and competitive play through its bracket system, Commander is set to continue its dominance for years to come, with over 20 dedicated Commander precons released in 2026 alone. In Commander, your deck can only contain cards that feature mana that aligns with the identity of your Commander. For Temur, this is red, green, and blue, meaning all cards in your deck can be any combination of these colors, or colorless. This leaves many Temur decks being a mix of stompy and aggressive creatures, with burn and control spells to back them up, oh, and plenty of mana ramp. We've compiled this list of 20 of the best Temur Commanders you can build around, regardless of whether you're new to the format or want to challenge yourself as a Magic expert. Updated on September 24, 2026, by Niall Walsh: This list needed an update after almost 18 months without any attention, so we've now made sure it's up-to-date and aligns with the meta and public popularity of eligible Temur Commanders, including those that have been released since the list was last updated. 20 Beluna Grandsquall // Seek Thrills Adventures Await Beluna Grandsquall is one of those cards that will only get better with time. The creature side of Beluna is a respectable 4/4 that causes your permanent spells with the Adventure mechanic to cost one less. If you build your deck right, it will make the majority of your deck a little cheaper to play, which can help accelerate you up in a game. The more interesting part of Beluna, though, is her adventure side. When you cast Seek Thrills, you mill yourself for seven cards, and then take everything you milled with an Adventure and put it in your hand. The odds are pretty good you'll be grabbing at least a few Adventure cards when you have enough in your deck. As Magic continues to print new cards with the Adventure mechanic, Beluna will only get stronger and more versatile. 19 Me, The Immortal You Have All The Time In The World 18 Coming from the Universes Beyond: Doctor Who expansion comes Me, the Immortal, a rather unique card that grows stronger the longer it is out in play. Once Me it out, and it survives to your combat step, you get to pick one of four counters to put on it. You can repeat counters, so once you get all the extra abilities on her, you can start ramping up the counters. The unique thing with Me is that counters stay on her anytime she changes zones, other than if it would go into your hand or library, though you can always choose not to have it happen if she's your commander. She lets you keep all counters on her too, not just the ones she adds, so if you can add a flying counter or even counters that would make her indestructible, they will stick around forever. 17 Lara Croft, Tomb Raider Always More Treasure To Be Found One of the more unique commanders to ever be printed comes from a Secret Lair Universes Beyond tie-in with the Tomb Raider universe. Lara Croft, Tomb Raider is all about uncovering legendary artifacts and lands from your graveyard, rewarding you for digging them up. Anytime Lara Croft attacks, you get to exile a legendary artifact or legendary land from anyone's graveyard, putting a discovery counter on it. Cards that have a discovery counter on them can be played if Lara Croft's ability triggers, and even better, she creates a Treasure token after she attacks thanks to her Raid ability. Not only is it incredibly thematic given her history as an explorer and treasure hunter, but she can also steal your opponent's legendary cards from their graveyard. With a few ways to mill your opponents or some destruction spells, you can fill all the graveyards up with treasures to steal. 16 Averna, The Chaos Bloom Blossom On The Battlefield A three-mana Temur commander, Averna, the Chaos Bloom is a solid option for those looking to build a deck around the Cascade mechanic. While cards with the Cascade mechanic allow you to exile cards from the top of your library until you hit a spell with a lesser mana cost, casting that spell, this mechanic interacts very little with lands. That's where Averna comes in. A 4/2 Elemental Shaman, Averna states that when triggering Cascade, its controller can put a land from among the cards into play. This allows cascade effects to effectively double as mana ramp as long as Averna is in play. Don't Make Him Angry A surprise contender for the best Temur Commander crown came from the Marvel Super Heroes set, where the double-sided Bruce Banner // The Incredible Hulk card popped up and brought with it the possibility for some nifty infinite combos. You'll be playing with Bruce as your Commander thanks to his single mana casting cost, but it'll take a further six mana to transform him into The Incredible Hulk. Bruce Banner lets you pay XX to draw X cards, which can only be cast as a sorcery. The Incredible Hulk is an 8/8 with Reach and Trample who gets a +1/+1 counter any time he receives damage. If you trigger this while he attacks, he untaps, you put a +1/+1 counter on him, and he triggers an additional combat phase. It didn't take long for players to realize that pairing this card with Caltrops and invincibility from a card like Mithril Coat meant you could trigger infinite damage phases and just chip away at player health to win games. It's a slightly clunky way to win, but there are also a ton of other decks to run, such as a Gamma kindred deck, which focuses on huge devastating creatures and beating opponents into submission. 14 Illuna, Apex Of Wishes Mutate Into Something New Printed in Ikoria, Illuna, Apex of Wishes is a 6/6 with flying and trample for five mana. Boasting a mutate cost of six mana, Illuna allows each mutate effect in its owner's deck to provide significantly more value. Whenever this creature mutates, you exile cards from the top of your library until you hit a nonland permanent card, putting that card directly into play or in your hand. This allows for massive and impactful permanents to be cheated into play, subverting high mana costs. 13 The Swarmlord Tyranid's Gonna Swarm Coming from the depths of space is The Swarmlord, the massive leader other Tyranids and a beast of a commander in Magic. The Swarmlord is a mix of two different mechanics: +1/+1 counters and death triggers. Thanks to its Rapid Regeneration ability, The Swarmlord enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters for each time you've cast your commander from the command zone. The more times it's died, the stronger it gets. Then, whenever a creature you control with a counter on it dies, you get to draw a card. Cards like Hardened Scales shine with The Swarmlord, as well as cards that place counters on your creatures passively, like Arwen, Weaver of Hope and Renata, Called to the Hunt. While you don't want to be recasting your commander a bunch in a game, it coming back stronger each time can be a punishing reward for your hard work. 12 Maelstrom Wanderer Wander What You're Going To Do A splashy yet effective commander, Maelstrom Wanderer is a 7/5 for eight mana that provides all creatures under its owner's control with haste, allowing them to attack and be used with more immediacy. Most notably, Maelstrom Wanderer has two instances of cascade, meaning that upon entering the battlefield, its controller triggers cascade twice, casting two additional spells for free. As Maelstrom Wanderer gives all other creatures haste, if creatures are put into play via its cascade, they can attack or activate abilities as soon as they come into play. 11 Omnath, Locus Of The Roil Make Those Lands Do Work Omnath, Locus of the Roil is a great commander choice for a Temur Elemental-themed deck. Upon entering the battlefield, Omnath deals an amount of damage to any target equal to the number of Elementals its owner controls. Either removing a threat or dealing substantial damage to a player, this ability is quite useful, especially when casting Omnath within an already established board state. Omnath also synergizes with lands and mana ramp quite well, putting a +1/+1 counter on target elemental whenever you play a land, even drawing a card if you control eight or more lands when you do so.
