4 min readFall season is officially pajama season.I shamelessly wear full pajama sets virtually all day, every day. I rounded up some Men’s Health-approved options, including PJs, robes, and slippers.NOW THAT IT’S fall, coziness takes precedence. I’ve never shied away from a solid set of pajamas, and it’s now as much of a staple as anything else in my wardrobe. I’m not ashamed of it either. I used to sleep in my boxers, but I didn’t realize how much I was missing out. These days, I wear the full getup—pajamas, robe, slippers, and all. All I’m missing is one of those funny hats and a candlestick. I like to call it “unc-maxxing,” but really, it’s just getting as comfortable as humanly possible.I’m the type to put my pajamas on the second I get home from work. I’m not exaggerating; it’s the first thing I do. At this point, it’s a uniform of sorts. I equate it to a literal transition into “chill mode.” Now that we’re fully entrenched in fall weather, it’s even more relevant. Especially when you factor in the bathrobe and slippers: the colder it gets, the more layers I’ll rock, even at home. Yes, I am aware I’m fully a grandpa. As an unabashed, expert-level pajama wearer, I’ll walk you through some of my favorite comfort-maxxing “stacks.” There’s one for every occasion, and hopefully you’ll be just as shameless as I am in following in my footsteps. My Go-To Pajama SetsSurprisingly, there’s a lot to consider when finding the perfect pajama set. Like any outfit, each serves a dedicated purpose. I’ve gone through more pairs than I can count, from inexpensive sets at Costco and Target to higher-quality ones from Nordstrom. The ones I listed, though, are my absolute favorites after dozens of sets and hours of wear testing (I was technically sleeping through a lot of it, but the point still stands).During the summer, I’ll wear the short-sleeve Bamboo Stretch Knit Short Set from Cozy Earth. It’s soft, stretchy, and breathable—perfect for summer and beyond. I’ll also wear these in early fall when I finally break out my comforter. Really though, you can wear it year-round.For the more transitional months, Tommy John’s Second Skin Sleep Pocket Tee & Pant Set is perfect. It’s cool to the touch and perfect for hot sleepers like myself. I also like to wear it around the house as loungewear—it gives off an elevated loungewear look, especially with the solid-colored pants. Cozy Earth’s First Layer Pajama Set is a solid alternative. If you want something budget-friendly, this Hanes Long Sleeve Pajama Gift Set is surprisingly comfortable, especially under $40. It also makes for a solid budget-friendly stocking stuffer. When we're in full-on hibernation mode, I love a good pair of flannel pajamas. L.L. Bean makes some of my favorites, and I love the classic patterns and timeless feel of its sets. Petite Plume also makes some solid holiday prints, including this Men's Twill Pajama Set in North Pole Chronicles. For something lighter that captures the essence of classic button-up pajamas, Eberjey’s The William Modal Long PJ Set blends the best of both worlds.Robes We RecommendYou might think I’m crazy, but I think three robes are the bare minimum. At least, for a habitual robe wearer like myself. I lump them into three buckets—one post-shower, one for lounging, and one for warmer temps. For lounging, the Midweight terry Hooded Robe feels like the perfect fit. It’s made of the same high-quality Terry Reigning Champ uses on its best-selling hoodies. The robe also features a hood, so it’s like you’re wearing that hoodie, only in robe form. This one’s great for Sunday football. Then there’s the classic plush robe, a staple, if not an essential. Brooklinen’s upgraded Super Plush Robe is the softest I’ve worn, and I love it in its “shorty” style. It’s a higher cut, which adds some style points. And yes, that matters, even with bathrobes. For warmer temperatures, I like a waffle robe. My favorite comes from Cozy Earth. It’s unbelievably soft, and the texture feels like you’re wearing a blanket. In other words, you pretty much feel like you’re in bed, even when you’re not. That’s huge for me.Comfy SlippersYes, I also have multiple pairs of slippers. I told you, this is my thing. My everyday slipper is Bombas’ Sunday Slipper. It features an all-over sherpa design and a cushioned footbed. Despite the insulated feel, it still doesn’t make your feet too sweaty—a tough formula to get right. If I’m going for a more elevated look, or I’m running errands and don’t want to get fully dressed, Ugg’s Ascot Slipper is my go-to. It combines Ugg’s classic plush lining with a leather upper for a pseudo-loafer look. You can realistically even wear these on a night out, and nobody would blink twice. In fact, you might even get a few compliments.Last but not least, the house shoe. This is an old-fashioned term, but it’s really just a clog you wear inside the house or when running errands. I prefer the Clay Riva Oiled Leather Slip-On Shoes on a lazy Sunday. They have a slipper-like feel, and you can wear them out—they’re that versatile.More Cozy Essentials for MenBest Bathrobes for Men | Best Pajamas | Best Pajama Shorts for Men | Best Hoodies | Best Underwear | Best Boxers for Men | Best T-Shirts | Best Thermal Underwear for Men | Best Thermal Shirts | Best Slippers | Best Joggers for Men | Best Sweatpants | Best SocksTim Kohut is the Deals and Trends Editor for Popular Mechanics, Men’s Health, Best Products, and Runner's World.
