Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Marvel's Wolverine Marvel's Wolverine is now available to play, offering a brand-new gaming experience and story set within Insomniac's growing Marvel Universe. Following the success of Marvel's Spider-Man, Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Marvel's Wolverine is a darker, more linear adventure starring Logan, Team X, and a new status quo for mutants across the board. Likewise, the entire story is packed with plenty of Easter eggs and references worthy of an MCU film. One of the most entertaining parts of Insomniac's various Marvel games is how lived-in they feel, featuring all sorts of hidden ties and surprise nods to the comics, past games, and the universe at large. Marvel's Wolverine is no exception, containing several exciting Easter eggs I had tons of fun uncovering as I progressed through the game. While it's certainly possible some were missed after a first playthrough, here are over 40 of the biggest and best Easter eggs, references, and ties to the greater Insomniac Marvel Universe found in Marvel's Wolverine. Maverick’s Mask & Team X Tribute After the game's initial mission rescuing Nathaniel Essex from Bolivar Trask and the Reavers, the return to Team X's headquarters in Canada features several cool Easter eggs and references throughout Essex's home. Not only is Maverick's mask featured in one of the lockers, but the living room area features a central obelisk with the names of past Team X members and familiar names, including Maverick, Morph, Eye Boy, Rain Boy, Kestrel, Harpoon, Vivisector, Network, Bling, and more. Along Came A Spider/Pizza Time There are several books on the shelves in Essex's home, including two that are clear nods to Spider-Man. The first is Along Came A Spider, written in the classic 90s Spider-Man font. There's also a cookbook nearby titled Pizza Time!, a fun nod to the highly memed Tobey Maguire scene from the opening of Spider-Man 2. Essex’s Diamond Tie While he doesn't have a full transformation till the end of the game, Nathaniel Essex's red tie has a repeating diamond pattern, a nod to the classic red diamond he'll eventually receive on his forehead (in the comics, the red diamond signified his identity among his fellow Sinister clones) Sad Wolverine Meme When selecting past missions, Logan lies down on the bed in his cabin while looking at a framed picture, a hilarious recreation of the classic "Sad Wolverine" meme which came from the original X-Men animated series of the 90s. Arcade An invoice reveals that Trask was selling weapons to A.R. Cadenski aka Arcade, a classic Marvel villain and creator of Murderworld, a lethal amusement park. All in all, seeing Arcade as a side villain one day in a future Spider-Man game from Insomniac would make perfect sense. Daily Bugle A Daily Bugle newspaper is featured, the classic paper originally run by J. Jonah Jameson in the original Marvel Universe, but is now run by Robbie Robertson in the Insomniac universe. Various Marvel Comics Issues Multiple classic Marvel Comics issues are featured throughout Marvel's Wolverine, including Amazing Fantasy #15 (Spider-Man's first appearance), Strange Tales #86, and Strange Tales #90 (Doctor Strange's debut). Logan's dog tag features the number 1048. In the wider Marvel Multiverse, Earth-1048 is the official designation for Insomniac's Marvel Universe. Silver Sable International A Silver Sable International building can be seen in the background of the Madripoor city skyline. Silver Sable herself was featured in Insomniac's first Spider-Man game and its DLC. Shaw & The Hellfire Club Another building simply reads "Shaw", which is likely a reference to the wealthy mutant Sebastian Shaw, a longtime leader of the Hellfire Club in the comics. Later on in the game, it's revealed that Essex has past ties to the Hellfire Club as well.
