The 8 Weirdest Marvel Team-Ups That Actually Happened

Published Oct 6, 2026, 11:30 PM EDT Mark has been a comic book journalist for over 15 years and has interviewed comic book creators like Gail Simone and Caspar Wijngaard. And when he's not writing, he's working on beating his record of 1,200 comics read in a year. Sign in to your ScreenRant account Team-ups are a staple in comic books. Normally, two or more people oppose each other and eventually partner up. There are also occasions, like when the Avengers first formed, when fate brings a group together. Then there are the weird collaborations that no one could have seen coming, or wanted to happen to begin with. No matter the comic book company, there are characters who’ve paired with people that have readers shaking their heads. For example, Jarro, a smaller version of Starro, teamed up with Batman and wore a Robin costume. Jarro even called Batman dad. But the weirdness in team-ups isn’t exclusive to DC Comics. Marvel has its share of odd collaborations too. Some of them make sense, while others will leave readers understandably more confused after reading than before they turned the first page. 8 Deadpool & Galactus Deadpool Team-Up #883, Written By Skottie Young Wade Wilson could be the epitome of comic book weirdness. Sure, readers can debate that characters like Slapstick or Madcap are weirder, but their powers help make them odd. Deadpool is strange because it’s part of his personality. Also, part of his character is being so annoying that even Galactus can’t stand him. Galactus put an ad in the paper looking for a herald. Wade applied, and the Eater of Planets made Deadpool a herald. Surprisingly, it worked out for a little while because Wade didn't discriminate. Any planet was worthy of his new boss. Sadly, like all things, Wade's mouth got him fired. This isn't the last time Deadpool was fired because he annoyed someone with immense power. Wade irked Mephisto so much that he ripped up his contract in Deadpool #15 by Skottie Young. Being so aggravating that even eternal beings fire a person is among the most impressive things in comics. That's something that only the Merc With the Mouth can accomplish. 7 The All-New Weapon X Weapon X, Written By Greg Pak Picture this. Old Man Logan, a Victor Creed (who was not a villain at the time), Lady Deathstrike, Domino, and Warpath are tracking a Hulk with Wolverine-like claws. Later, they're being hunted by Reverend Stryker. Down the line, Mystique and Omega Red join the team. This sounds like the setup for a bad joke a person would hear in a bar. In reality, it was one of the oddest teams in Marvel Comics that worked despite the optics. Initially, this article wasn’t going to have any teams on here. However, this was a group full of people who hated each other. Unlike the Suicide Squad or writer Frank Tieri’s Weapon X, they weren’t forced to be together. This was also a team led by Sabretooth, who was altered after Avengers & X-Men: AXIS. Overall, a strange team to put together, but Greg Pak made it make sense. 6 Moon Knight & The Wrecker Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #12-15, Written By Jed MacKay The Wrecker, also known as Dirk Garthwaite, once tried his hand at not being a criminal, but it never sticks, and he can’t outrun his past. He’s done some atrocious things as part of the Wrecking Crew that left innocent people with destroyed property, injuries, and dead loved ones. The latter is how Moon Knight and the Wrecker end up teaming together. Wrecker said that Marc Spector (Moon Knight) owed him for helping bring him back from the dead as shown in Vengeance of the Moon Knight #7. Marc disagrees until Dirk mentions that Moon Knight has blood on his hands too. This leads to the two fighting ghosts in a weird adventure to protect Dirk from one of his victims. After the odd couple wins, Wrecker reminds everyone that he’s a terrible person. Luckily, Marc saw this coming and enlisted Clea Strange to punish Dirk for his past deeds. Wrecker is taken to the Dark Dimension to atone for his crimes, which scares Wrecker enough to scream in horror. 5 The Wolverine Variants Exiles #85-86, Written By Tony Bedard After dozens of missions, the Exiles found out that the chaos in the multiverse was caused by the same bug-like creatures, who were being called the Timebreakers. They were also the ones who recruited and lied to them about who messed everything up. When the Exiles fought back, the Timebreakers stranded them in another universe. The Timebreakers then came up with an equation that they thought would succeed. They'd create a team of Wolverines from across the multiverse. Unsurprisingly, it didn’t go as they hoped. The Exiles traveled across the multiverse and saw tons of different beings who differed from the characters comic book fans are used to seeing. Nevertheless, none of them were as weird as a team of Logans from across the multiverse. There was a clown Wolverine and a Logan as the Thing. The oddest was the antagonist, who was part Wolverine and part different members of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. 4 Brielle Brooks & Dracula Dracula: Blood Hunt, Written By Danny Lore During Marvel Comics’ Blood Hunt, Blade was possessed by the first vampire to exist, Varnae. He and his team were so unbeatable that they defeated the Avengers, notably including Thor, the Scarlet Witch, and Doctor Strange in this instance. In order to defeat them, the unlikely pair of Brielle Brooks and Dracula had to team up. This is odd because Brielle is Blade’s daughter, and Blade has an undying hatred of Dracula. Dracula never acted as if he wasn’t anything other than who he was. This was upsetting to Brielle, but she knew this was for the greater good. In the end, it was the right decision because they defeated Varnae. However, that doesn’t make the collaboration any less weird. 3 Eddie Brock & Carnage Eddie Brock: Carnage, Written By Charles Soule At the end of the Marvel event Venom War, Eddie Brock and Carnage were both about to die. The only way to prevent that was for the two to bond. Eddie knew this was a bad idea because the Crimson Killer Klyntar can’t be controlled. Nevertheless, Eddie tried using Carnage to kill people who deserved it. Of Course, this doesn’t work. Carnage eventually does what he always does and schemes. This time, he found a way to keep Eddie asleep while he controlled his host’s body in Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral. Eventually, the two were separated, and now the Carnage symbiote is with another unlikely host, Jessica Drew. 2 Invincible & Spider-Man Marvel Team-Up No. 14, Written By Robert Kirkman Mark Grayson, aka Invincible, was sent to the Marvel Comics universe thanks to one of his most dangerous villains, Angstrom Levy. When he arrives, Invincible is immediately greeted by Doctor Octopus, whom he easily defeats. After that, Mark meets the Avengers (who he gives awful names based on Spider-Man) and eventually does the unbelievable and easily breaks Doc Ock’s metal arms. This issue came at a time when there weren't many cross-promotional team-ups. Yet, this happened. It doesn't matter why it did. Their crossover became a legendary moment among comic book fans. So much so that they hoped Spidey would end up on Invincible on Prime Video. While that didn't happen, there was a version of him on the show. 1 Punisher & Doctor Strange Original Sin, Written By Jason Aaron The Punisher is a mass murderer who kills people who he feels deserve his brand of punishment. At the time, Doctor Stephen Strange was the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Comics universe. These two could be more different, but were the perfect pair to help solve the mystery of who killed Uatu, the Watcher. This was a couple that no one would have thought about putting together, and only writer Jason Aaron could make it work. Not only that, it’s easy to believe that comic book fans would have loved to see more of them together more often. Their opposite personalities and approach to villains could have been the stuff of legends.
