Test rankings: Rishabh Pant overtakes Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal out of top 10

Rishabh Pant has moved up to No. 7 in the ICC men's Test batting rankings, going past Shubman Gill. The wicketkeeper-batter has gone ahead of his captain, Shubman Gill, in the latest rankings for men's Test batters, updated by the International Cricket Council on Wednesday, August 26.Pant has risen six spots to break into the top 10 and reach the seventh spot, while Shubman Gill has retained his spot at No. 7. Pant has been rewarded for a good start to the Test series in Sri Lanka. He scored 39 in the first innings and followed it up with 66 in India's 165-run win over Sri Lanka in Galle.Pant has been one of India's consistent run-scorers in Test cricket in 2026. He has scored 249 runs, including three fifties, in three Tests. Only Devdutt Padikkal has more runs than Pant in Tests this year, managing 328 runs in just three innings. Padikkal hit a hundred in each of the two Tests in Sri Lanka, making the most of the opportunity that came his way due to Sai Sudharsan's injury.Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal has slipped out of the top 10 in the rankings. The left-handed opener has dropped two spots to No. 11 after a quiet period in whites. The Rajasthan Royals star is yet to hit a fifty in Tests this year. He missed out on a good opportunity to score big against Afghanistan in a one-off Test in New Chandigarh in June before failing twice in the series opener against Sri Lanka in Galle. No other Indian is in the top 25 of the Test batting rankings, which are led by England's Harry Brook.Devdutt Padikkal, meanwhile, has made his way into the batting charts. After scoring a hundred in the opening Test in Galle, he is now in the top 50. The Karnataka batter will rise further, considering the points from the hundred he scored in the first innings of the second Test would not have been counted in the latest update. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja are currently at the 30th and 29th positions, respectively. Jadeja, however, continues to lead the ICC rankings for men's all-rounders in Test cricket.England's Joe Root is in second spot, while Steve Smith, Travis Head and South Africa's Temba Bavuma round off the top five.Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who missed the first Test in England, is at the 10th spot and is in danger of falling further if the going gets tough in England.
