Teaching is a noble profession that lays the foundation of the society, says Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad

Santosh Lad, Minister for Labour Welfare. | Photo Credit: File photo Santosh Lad, Minister for Labour Welfare and in-charge Minister of Dharwad, inaugurated Teachers’ Day celebrations in the district on Sunday (September 6).He described teaching as a noble profession and emphasised on its importance in society. “Teaching is the profession that creates all other professions,” he said, stating that teachers had played a crucial role in shaping freedom fighters, professors and achievers in various fields. He recalled the contributions of Basavanna, Gautama Buddha, Socrates, Plato, Karl Marx, Louis Pasteur and Albert Einstein, whose ideas continued to influence society even after their deaths.“The country has witnessed significant changes in education and several other sectors since Independence, especially in the last 30–35 years. While India’s literacy rate was below 20% around the time of Independence, it has now risen to around 75%. However, there is a need for introspection on the functioning of various systems in the country,” he said.He presented awards to outstanding teachers at Karnatak Vidyavardhak Sangha hall.“Teachers have the power to make a deep impact on students at an early stage and interact directly with the future of the country every day. Education should not be limited to classroom teaching. Teachers must instil morality, gratitude, humanity, empathy and social responsibility in children,’’ he said. He urged teachers to study and respect the Constitution, remain politically neutral and teach children about the country’s history and dignity with a clear conscience. “Teachers must become role models by bringing positive changes in themselves,’’ he said.Deputy Commissioner Snehal R. said that although students could easily access information through the internet, mobile phones and television, teachers had a greater responsibility to help them use such information wisely, develop values and distinguish between right and wrong.She stressed the need to improve students’ learning levels in the district and urged parents to take greater responsibility for their children’s education. “Teachers should encourage students to set higher goals and dream of becoming senior officials, entrepreneurs and achievers,’’ she said.DDPI Umesh Bammakkanavar and others were present.
