TDI Unveils Transparency Tool Showing Why Auto Policies are Declined

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) has introduced a tool that gives drivers insight into why personal auto insurance policies in their area were declined, canceled, or not renewed. The page also shows the number of cars with insurance policies and the counts of nonrenewals, cancellations, and declinations reported by insurance companies. Users can search policy actions or reasons by zip code. The most common reasons for declination of policies is the make and model of a vehicle. The tool stems from House Bill 2067, passed in 2025, which requires insurance companies to report this information to TDI and provide written explanations when they decline, cancel, or don’t renew a home or auto insurance policy.
