The Taylor Sheridan crime drama won’t return for Season 4 until October 16, but Paramount+ has already renewed the series for a fifth season, which will take Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) back to the one place he's been trying to avoid. Over the past few seasons of Tulsa King, Dwight has built an empire from the ground up in a city where he had no existing business connections. Season 5 has the opportunity to bring him back to his roots while giving the show a much-needed change of scenery. After spending years establishing Dwight's world in Tulsa, it's high time for Tulsa King to embrace a new chapter in a not-so-new city. What Is 'Tulsa King' About? A modern-day cross between The Sopranos and Breaking Bad, Tulsa King begins when Dwight Manfredi (Stallone) is released after 25 years in prison, expecting the Mafia to welcome him with open arms. Instead, he is given a one-way ticket to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he has to build an empire from scratch. Over the past three seasons (soon-to-be four), Dwight has turned a series of unlikely ventures into a mega-operation, including a marijuana dispensary, car dealership, whiskey and bourbon investments, a cabaret, casino, and even a wind turbine project. Naturally, his old associates want a piece of it. Of course, Dwight isn't exactly interested in sharing with the people who banished him instead of rewarding his loyalty. His refusal to give some of his earnings to his old mob gets him in trouble, prompting the Mafia to send assassins to kill him — or at least try to. Either way, Dwight has bigger enemies to think about. Apart from rival businesses, Dwight is also shaking hands with important higher-ups in local Tulsa politics. Considering these politicians are seeking power and resources in the underworld, it's only a matter of time before Dwight's businesses are threatened by the government, setting the stage for what's to come in Tulsa King Season 4. Dwight Manfredi Is Finally Returning Home in 'Tulsa King' Season 5 While Season 4 premieres on October 16, production for Tulsa King Season 5 has already begun. This time, it's taking place in New York City. After building a criminal empire in Tulsa, Dwight will now have to deal with the people and problems he left behind. His return puts him face-to-face with the people who exiled him but still want a piece of his pie. And if he's ambitious enough, Dwight might just expand his business in New York, further rubbing salt in the mob's wounds, which audiences have watched dwindle due to internal conflicts throughout the previous seasons. It's a risky move, considering the Mafia already sent people to kill him in Tulsa, and that risk only increases now that he's in the heart of enemy territory (that is, if he hasn't patched things up with the Mafia by the Season 4 finale). More importantly, Dwight rarely succeeds alone. The series has consistently shown how he brings along the people who have proven their loyalty, turning his ragtag Tulsa crew into his chosen family. While no Season 5 plot details have been revealed, it wouldn't be surprising if Dwight brought some of his crew along to the Big Apple. The 'Tulsa King' Universe Is Also Expanding to Texas Image via Paramount In true Sheridan television fashion, Tulsa King is getting its own spin-off, titled Frisco King (formerly NOLA King). Starring Samuel L. Jackson as Russell Lee Washington Jr., this isn't the first time Jackson's Lee has appeared in Sheridan's universe. Jackson first appeared in the back half of Tulsa King Season 3, when Lee was ordered by Quiet Ray (James Russo) of the Renzetti crime family to assassinate Dwight. However, Quiet Ray doesn't realize how strong Dwight and Lee's bond is, as Dwight practically saved Lee's life during their time in prison. Lee doesn't carry out the hit, which only angers the Mafia more. Tired of his hitman career and impressed by what Dwight has done with himself in Tulsa, Lee is inspired to do the same in Frisco, Texas. Despite the title change, Lee still hails from New Orleans, suggesting the series will relocate him to Texas rather than rewrite his backstory. Although no Tulsa King and Frisco King crossover has been confirmed, Tulsa King star Frank Grillo has expressed that "it would be silly if there wasn't some kind of crossover for two, three, four episodes." With Tulsa King making major changes for Season 5, it makes sense for the series to take even more strides with its creative direction as the story continues. Release Date November 13, 2022 Network Paramount+ Showrunner Dave Erickson, Terence Winter Cast Dwight 'The General' Manfredi Lawrence 'Bodhi' Geigerman Tulsa King follows New York mafia capo Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone), just after he is released from prison after 25 years and unceremoniously exiled by his boss to set up shop in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
