Her published work spans news, interviews, features, and opinion pieces, with a focus on film, franchise storytelling, and the entertainment industry. She earned her bachelor's degree in Communications with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Business Writing from Southern New Hampshire University. Sydney Sweeney spent 2026 saying goodbye to the role that made her famous while making it very clear that her movie career was only getting busier. Euphoria finally returned after four years away, giving Sweeney one last season as Cassie Howard before HBO confirmed the series was over. Cassie was hardly eased into adulthood either. Season 3 jumped several years forward, letting Sweeney play Cassie at a very different point in her life before bringing her seven-year breakout role with the character to an end. On the movie side, The Housemaid kept giving Sweeney momentum well into 2026. After opening in late 2025, the thriller grew into a major box office success and quickly earned a sequel. The Housemaid’s Secret was dated for December 2027, with Kirsten Dunst joining Sweeney in the cast. Sweeney was also already onto something completely different, filming Legendary’s live-action Gundam movie in Australia with Noah Centineo. Going from Millie Calloway in a domestic thriller to a massive science fiction franchise made it pretty clear that Sweeney was not planning to follow one lane after Euphoria. That leaves Sweeney heading out of 2026 with one of the busiest movie slates of her career. 10 The Housemaid’s Secret Daniel McFadden/Lionsgate Sydney Sweeney is heading back into Millie Calloway’s very messy line of work in The Housemaid’s Secret. The sequel brings back Paul Feig as director and Michele Morrone as Enzo, while moving Millie into another wealthy household where the marriage she walks into quickly proves to be far more complicated than it looks. Freida McFadden’s second Housemaid novel provides the blueprint, with Wendy and Douglas Garrick becoming the new couple at the focus of Millie’s latest job. Kirsten Dunst will play Wendy, with Paul Anthony Kelly as Douglas. Brittany Snow has also joined the cast as Marybeth, while Stephen Kalyn will play Brock. Amanda Seyfried has said she would love to return as Nina in a cameo, but that remains unconfirmed for now (via CinemaBlend). This is also one of the easiest movies on Sweeney’s upcoming slate to plan for. The Housemaid’s Secret is already in pre-production and has a theatrical release date of December 17, 2027. After the first movie turned Millie into one of Sweeney’s biggest recent roles, the sequel gives her a chance to return to a character instead of starting from scratch. 9 The Custom of the Country The Custom of the Country is one of the projects Sydney Sweeney has been involved with beyond just signing on to star. She is also producing the Edith Wharton adaptation, while Josie Rourke wrote the screenplay and directs. Rourke has said she had Sweeney in mind while writing Undine Spragg, the ambitious Midwestern woman at the center of Wharton’s 1913 novel. Undine arrives in turn-of-the-century New York determined to work her way into its wealthiest social circles, regardless of how much scandal she creates along the way. Sweeney has a large ensemble around her, including Leo Woodall, Dominic West, Rose Leslie, Matthew Goode, Martha Plimpton, Hugh Dancy, Miranda Richardson, Ian Hart, Louis Garrel, and James McArdle. This one is also much further along than several of Sweeney’s other announced movies. Filming began in Portugal in February 2026, and the project is now in post-production. No exact release date has been announced, but The Custom of the Country is currently expected in 2027. After multiple earlier attempts to adapt Wharton’s novel failed to reach the screen, Sweeney’s version is the one that finally made it through production. 8 Gundam Sydney Sweeney’s Gundam movie is not a straight remake of the 1979 anime that launched the franchise. Writer-director Jim Mickle is telling a new story about rival mech pilots fighting on opposite sides of a war between Earth and its former space colonies. Sweeney and Noah Centineo lead the movie and are also producing, though Netflix has not revealed either character’s name or exactly where they fit into the conflict. The cast also includes Michael Mando, Shioli Kutsuna, Nonso Anozie, Javon Walton, Jason Isaacs, Jackson White, Gemma Chua-Tran, Oleksandr Rudynskyi, and Ida Brooke. Filming began in Queensland, Australia, in April 2026 and wrapped in July. Netflix plans to release Gundam in 2027, but no exact date has been announced (via IMDB). For now, Sweeney’s role remains the biggest mystery surrounding the film, even as the project itself is already well into post-production. 7 Hollow © Neon/Courtesy Everett Collection Lindsey Anderson Beer is adapting Hollow from her own upcoming novel, where Katrina is no longer just the woman caught between Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones. She becomes the person driving the mystery, with both men pulled into a dangerous supernatural triangle around her. Beer is also directing the film. Belmont Cameli has been cast as Brom Bones, while Ichabod Crane is still unannounced. Sweeney is also producing through Honey Trap, with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap involved, making Hollow one of the projects she has a hand in behind the camera as well (via TheWrap). Sony picked up the film in July 2026, but production has not started and there is no release date yet, so it is still one of the earlier-stage movies on her slate. 6 Scandalous! Scandalous! has Sweeney playing Vertigo star Kim Novak, with David Jonsson as Sammy Davis Jr. The film focuses on their brief relationship in 1957, when an interracial romance between two Hollywood stars carried serious personal and professional consequences. Colman Domingo will make his feature directing debut from a script by Matthew Fantaci, while Sweeney is also producing (via TheWrap). Sweeney said in 2025 that she planned to meet Novak, study her films, and work with movement and dialect coaches before playing her. Novak has since publicly criticized the casting and expressed concern about how the relationship will be portrayed (via Vanity Fair). The bigger question is when the movie will actually happen. Its status was still uncertain in 2026, with no production start or release date announced. 5 Barbarella Sydney Sweeney has been attached to Barbarella since 2022, with Sony bringing back the space-faring heroine Jane Fonda played in the 1968 film. Sweeney is set to star and executive produce, but the new movie has not revealed its plot or how closely it will follow Jean-Claude Forest’s original comics (via TheWrap). Edgar Wright entered talks to direct in 2024, with Jane Goldman and Honey Ross also in talks to write the screenplay. Those reports did not confirm that any of those deals had closed (Via Variety Australia). That leaves Barbarella in a strange spot. Sweeney has been tied to it for years, but there is still no announced supporting cast, filming date, or release date. Until Sony starts locking those pieces down, this is one of her upcoming movies with the most question marks around it. 4 That Man From Rio Sydney Sweeney is starring in Apple’s That Man From Rio, a modern take on the 1964 French adventure comedy, and will also executive produce. According to TheWrap, the original follows an airman whose visit with his fiancée turns into a kidnapping and a chase involving a stolen Amazonian statue, but Apple has not said how much of that story the new movie will keep. Sweeney’s character has not been revealed, so there is no confirmation that she is playing the remake’s version of Françoise Dorléac’s Agnès. Justin Lin, who directed multiple Fast & Furious movies, is set to direct and produce, while Chase Palmer wrote the screenplay (via ScreenDaily). The movie is still in development at Apple, with no additional cast, filming date, or release date announced. For now, Lin’s involvement is the biggest indication of what kind of large-scale adventure Sweeney is signing onto. 3 The Caretaker MoviestillsDB In The Caretaker, Sweeney takes a remote job that turns out to be much more dangerous than advertised. She plays a young woman who accepts the position to help support her sister, only to discover something sinister hidden on the property. Sweeney is also producing through Fifty-Fifty Films, with Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Scott Glassgold also attached (via TheWrap). The movie is still in development. Though, a May 2026 production listing named Sutherland, Scotland, as a filming location, but the shoot date was still TBA. David Bruckner, Ben Collins, and Luke Piotrowski were listed as writers. With no filming date or release date yet, The Caretaker is still one of Sweeney’s earlier-stage projects. 2 I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl Warner Bros. is turning Joe Cote’s Reddit short story I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl into a thriller with Sydney Sweeney starring and producing. The story follows a drifter who poses as a missing woman so she can steal from the girl’s family, only to find herself trapped in something way more dangerous. Sweeney’s character has not been formally named, but she is expected to play that impostor (via Deadline). Eric Roth, whose credits include Dune and Forrest Gump, is writing the screenplay, with Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Trevor Engelson, and Aaron Folbe producing. 1 Split Fiction Split Fiction landed its movie adaptation almost immediately after the game became a hit, selling more than 2 million copies in its first week. The story follows writers Mio and Zoe after they are trapped inside the sci-fi and fantasy worlds they created and have to find a way out together. Sweeney will star and executive produce, but Variety reported that it had not yet been decided whether she would play Mio or Zoe. Jon M. Chu is directing, while Deadpool & Wolverine writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are handling the script. Chu was still attached as of July 2026, but there is no announced second lead, filming date, or release date. For now, Sweeney has landed one half of the game’s duo without revealing which one. Release Date December 17, 2027 Director Paul Feig Writers Rebecca Sonnenshine Producers Todd Lieberman, Paul Feig, Laura Fischer
