One Region Just Got The Best Official Switch 2 Deal Since The Price Hikes Published Oct 6, 2026, 3:38 AM EDT Sam Woods is TheGamer’s Senior Reporter. He’s been in games journalism since 2020 and has undertaken a variety of roles in that time. These have included roles such as SEO Editor, Managing Editor at DualShockers, and Global Head of Gaming, and he's also been seen on the BBC. He was promoted to the Senior Reporter position in 2025 following a series of high-quality reports and exclusives for TheGamer. Since 2020, Sam has written over 3,000 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game. Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, provided context on some AI drama, and revealed that Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games. Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on three occasions. He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times. Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises. Sign in to your TheGamer account The past couple of years have been brutal for console price hikes. As RAM is being swallowed up by AI companies, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo have all been forced to raise the prices of their hardware. Because of this, plus the general cost-of-living surge, it's imperative to find the best deals. That's what we've done for you here: the Switch 2 is at a post-hike low price, but unfortunately, it's only for one specific region. The Japanese Nintendo Switch 2 Is Available At Its Lowest Price Since May The Nintendo Switch 2 only launched in June 2025, but it's already faced a fairly significant price increase. In May this year, the Switch, Switch OLED, and Switch 2 all increased in price in Japan, and similar hikes followed across the rest of the world last month. It jumped by $50 in the US and 30 Euros in Europe. Despite the price hikes, the Switch 2 fell to its lowest price ever in the UK last month, selling for £354.99 ($469.99) at select retailers, and now, Japan has got an even better deal. For 63,980 yen ($404), players can get a Nintendo Switch 2 plus a choice of Mario Kart World, Switch Sports Resort, or Tomodachi Life. It launches on November 12. Unfortunately, if you're thinking of importing from Japan, you'll need to know your way around the language. The offer is only available on the Japanese-only Switch 2, which is locked to the Japanese language and will only work with a Japanese My Nintendo account. It's great if you speak Japanese; less so if you don't. It's unclear at this point whether Nintendo will follow suit in the North America region, but with a lack of significant software launching this holiday season, outside of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and its limited edition Switch 2, you have to imagine Nintendo will want to do something to shift its hardware. Even if it is making less per unit after the price increase. Brand Nintendo Original Release Date June 5, 2025 Original MSRP (USD) $449.99 Operating System Proprietary Resolution 1080p (handheld) / 4K (docked) HDR Support Yes
