His recent form with the bat was one of the factors behind the decision, while the selectors are also looking ahead to the next two-year cycle.The 35-year-old has struggled to find consistency and also had a difficult IPL campaign, adding to the questions over his place in India's T20I side.Asked about his plans for a comeback at an event for the Pro Govinda League, Suryakumar said he is doing everything he can to put himself in contention again. He took over as T20I captain after Rohit Sharma's retirement from the format and led India to the World Cup title. However, he was later replaced as captain by Shreyas Iyer and left out of the T20I squad altogether.The former world No. 1 T20I batter has not been able to reproduce his best form consistently in recent times. His omission comes after a period in which his performances with the bat have not matched the standards he had set for himself.India's results under Iyer have also not gone their way. They were beaten 2-0 by Ireland before losing the five-match T20I series against England 4-0. The first match of that series was abandoned without a result because of rain.Suryakumar also had a fun exchange with Sri Lanka great Sanath Jayasuriya during an event in Colombo. A video shared on social media showed Suryakumar greeting Jayasuriya before joking about his fitness and asking if he was preparing for an international comeback.“Getting fitter, trying to make a comeback? Looks like 100%,” Suryakumar said.
