It's easily one of the best Mario games ever, and for anyone who hasn't played it in a while, you might be surprised to see how dated it looks on the Switch, even if it's still incredibly fun. Perhaps this is why fans are taking it into their own hands to improve or tweak Super Mario Odyssey from a graphics standpoint. We've seen fun exploits and homemade upgrades over the years, but Mario looks better than ever thanks to a new fan-made "remaster" that showcases everyone's favorite plumber running around a number of environments you'll recognize from Super Mario Odyssey. Over on YouTube, creator EDMIRE has shown off gameplay from Super Mario Odyssey using DLSS 5. In the video, which you can view below, we see Mario running around numerous worlds from the Switch classic, and he... actually looks noticeably better. While a lot of users are making somewhat horrifying renditions of Ellie from The Last of Us or Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, it's kind of refreshing to see Mario looking good with this technology. "If PlayStation made Mario," jokes one of the comments on YouTube. "What I thought this game looked like in 2017," reads another. And, yes, the graphics look noticeably sharper, the grass has way more pixels, and Mario's clothing actually reflects light in a realistic way. For some reason, he also looks tanner, but we'll ignore that for now. The point is, Super Mario Odyssey looks really impressive in EDMIRE's new video. Is this what the game would look like if it released on the Nintendo Switch 2 all these years later? Probably not, but it's still fun to dream. Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best games of all time on Switch, and while we're all still waiting for a sequel, this latest graphical upgrade of the original is still pretty fun to watch.
