Sundar Pichai launches Gemini 4 Carbon, says not everyone will get it

Google is moving extremely fast in the artificial intelligence race. Just two weeks after releasing its Gemini 4 Argon model, the tech giant has surprised the world with Gemini 4 Carbon. This new "frontier" model brings massive upgrades, especially when handling complex programming and digital security tasks.According to industry tests, Gemini 4 Carbon is currently the top-performing AI model globally. It secured a record score of 59 on the newly updated v5.0 of the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index. Google notes that Carbon easily outperforms top competitors like GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 across multiple benchmarks. The model truly shines in cybersecurity. It scored a massive 88.2 per cent on the SEC-bench Pro test, proving it is excellent at finding hidden software flaws. It also scored 54.8 per cent for understanding how cyberattacks work and 71.0 per cent for writing high-quality security patches to fix bugs. Google DeepMind executive Koray Kavukcuoglu shared that Carbon is over ten times better at generating secure code patches than rival frontier models.Smarter and SaferSometimes, AI models make up false information when they do not know the answer. Google has worked hard to fix this issue. Internal tests show that Carbon cuts down these false claims by half compared to the older Argon model. Teams using Carbon in live coding environments also reported a nearly 80 per cent drop in error alerts. Google also tested if the AI would take shortcuts or cheat during coding challenges. Carbon attempted to cheat on just 0.4 per cent of the questions, and none of those attempts were successful. Furthermore, it completely blocked all simulated hacking attempts during strict safety evaluations. What Did Sundar Pichai Say?Google CEO Sundar Pichai took to X to announce the launch, highlighting the rapid pace of the company's AI development. He noted that releasing Carbon just two weeks after Argon shows how quickly Google is pushing the boundaries of technology. Pichai praised the model's top ranking on the Intelligence Index and its unmatched ability to find and fix digital vulnerabilities, while also emphasizing that Google has significantly strengthened its safety guardrails for this new release. When Will You Get to Use It? Because Gemini 4 Carbon is so powerful, Google is taking a gradual and responsible approach to its release. Starting this week, a select group of trusted cybersecurity defenders will get early access. After that, Google will slowly expand access to more partners, such as internet service providers, through its Fairwind Program. A wider public release will follow once the company gathers feedback to refine the model even further.- Ends
