Sub-Inspector suspended for slapping female dancer and brandishing pistol to crowd in Bihar

The Bihar Police sub-inspector accused of assaulting a female dancer and brandishing his pistol in Begusarai was suspended after the video of the incident went viral on social media.In the video, SI Anil Kumar Singh, posted at the Mufassil Police Station, is seen climbing the stage and slapping a female performer. When people protested, the SI drew his pistol and fired into the air to intimidate the crowd.The incident took place on Tuesday (October 20, 2026), during a jagran (devotional night-long event) held at ‘Sarvajanik Durga Sthan in Panagachhi’, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station. During the event, local police personnel were also deployed to maintain law and order and ensure security arrangements.The SI deputed there tried to shut down the programme and even “assaulted” the event organiser, after which the locals became angry, and a scuffle broke out among some people in the crowd.The locals present over there asked why he had raised his hand against a woman and slapped her. Faced with protests from the angry crowd, the sub-inspector (SI) drew his service pistol and also used abusive language. He even threatened the people with dire consequences.Taking cognizance of a video circulating on social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram), the Superintendent of Police (SP), Maneesh Kumar Begusarai, has initiated disciplinary action.A press statement on October 21, 2026, from the office of the Begusarai Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that a preliminary review of the viral video indicates that the methods used by SI Anil Kumar Singh—who was deputed at the site—to maintain law and order were flawed and his conduct has tarnished the image of the police force.The statement further stated, “The Superintendent of Police, Begusarai, has placed SI Anil Kumar Singh under suspension with immediate effect; he will be entitled to a subsistence allowance during this period. His headquarters during the suspension will be the Police Lines, Begusarai.”The Begusarai SP has directed the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Sadar-01, to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation into the video and to submit a formal report within the stipulated time frame.
