The company explained that establishing communication with an object early allows it to take control of manoeuvring decisions, while also enabling SpaceX to rapidly share orbital information.“Early contact lets us take maneuvering responsibility, publish ephemeris faster than ground radar can catalog the object, and deorbit and keep commanding through demise if needed,” the company said. Ephemeris data is crucial information describing an object's position and movement in space. Rapidly generating and sharing this information can help operators track spacecraft and assess potential collision risks.The comments also highlight the growing importance of autonomous systems as thousands of satellites are deployed into low-Earth orbit.Starlink, operated by SpaceX, has become one of the world's largest satellite constellations, providing broadband connectivity from orbit. With thousands of spacecraft operating simultaneously, managing their movements requires a combination of automated systems, ground-based tracking and continuous communication.SpaceX said it considers communication an essential part of satellite operations rather than an optional capability.“We treat early communications as a requirement, not a nice-to-have,” Starlink said.The footage from Starship also provides a glimpse into how future large-scale satellite deployment could look as SpaceX continues expanding Starlink and develops Starship into a reusable heavy-lift launch system.For SpaceX, the challenge is no longer simply putting satellites into orbit.
