‘Stolen’ van crashes after going ‘wrong way’ down A20 in police chase before being rammed by cops

Cops swooped on the vehicle after it was flagged by officers as stolen on Sunday evening, The Sun understands. Met officers had been supporting Kent Police in the pursuit, which began before 7.40pm. The chase ended on Mottingham Road, Bromley, after cops used tactical contact to stop the vehicle. Tactical contact is a police manoeuvre used to bring a fleeing vehicle to a controlled stop. Witnesses had earlier reported seeing a van travelling against the flow of traffic in Swanley. One person who was nearby described the the scenes. They told the News Shopper: “It sounded like an air raid was about to kick off. Most read in The Sun “Never seen so many police cars before.” At least eight police vehicles were pictured at the scene following the dramatic crash. A suspect was detained after the vehicle was stopped. One Met officer suffered an injury to his hand during the incident. He was taken to hospital but was later discharged. No other serious injuries were reported. It is not yet known exactly where the pursuit began or how the van came to be travelling the wrong way. The Met confirmed officers had supported Kent Police in the pursuit. The force said the vehicle had been flagged as stolen. The incident happened on Sunday, August 30, at around 7.40pm. Police have not confirmed whether anyone has been charged over the incident.
