Still a lot to learn: Yami Gautam is still soaking in her first National Award win

Bollywood actor Yami Gautam is still taking in the fact that she’s now a National Award winner. The 37-year-old received her first Best Actress honour for the 2024 film Article 370 from President Droupadi Murmu at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony. Speaking to the media in Gujarat's Kevadia, Gautam admitted afterwards that she was still trying to “soak in” the moment.For Yami, the award carries a meaning that goes beyond one performance. In a clip shared by PTI on X, she spoke about the years of work, the dreams that bring artists to the city and the uncertainty of not knowing where that journey might lead.“I am still trying to soak in this moment. It is a great matter of pride and honour for any artist, any film artist who has worked all their life. And I say this, I am sure, on behalf of all of us who have dreams, who come to the city with dreams. You do not know what life has in store for you,” she said.The win has left Yami proud, but she isn’t looking at it as the finish line. If anything, she feels there’s still plenty left to learn and do. “Keep working hard, keep learning and doing good work, and one day this will happen. I don’t know how far I have come. In my journey, I still have a lot to learn and a lot of work left to do. This in itself is such a big honour, and to receive it at such a historic place makes one feel very proud. The film also won Best Feature Film, while Shashwat Sachdev was recognised with the award for Best Music Direction.Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, Article 370 was co-written by Aditya Dhar, Monal Thaakar and Arjun Dhawan. The film features Yami alongside Priyamani, Skand Thakur, Ashwini Kaul, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Arun Govil and Kiran Karmarkar.The film takes its story from the 2019 revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under Article 370 of the Constitution of India.
