While full of controversy surrounding its new protagonist, Evie, the follow-up to Shift Up's 2024 smash hit was a welcome announcement. Before Blood Rain's release, a Switch 2 port of the original Stellar Blade is on the cards, and we got to sit down with DongKi Lee, CTO of Shift Up and Stellar Blade Technical Director, to discuss it. Of course, while we were there, we had to find out whether there was any chance the sequel might hit Nintendo's latest platform. A Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Switch Port Doesn't Seem Impossible I came away with mixed feelings from my hands-on preview of Stellar Blade's Nintendo Switch 2 port. It's impressive, like Elden Ring, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Resident Evil Requiem before it, but some elements of the visuals suffer. Undeterred by these issues and the fact that PR told me I couldn't dive too deep into Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, I had to try to find out if a Switch 2 version of the sequel was in the studio's plans. "Hypothetically," I posed, "could the lessons you learned from porting Stellar Blade to the Switch 2 be used in other games? Perhaps a giant sequel you have coming out in the future?" "Expanding to a new platform will always help," Lee tells me. "The experience that the dev team will gain, for example, like PlayStation, we learned a lot, and then PC and now Switch 2. Yes, that will always help, and definitely for the sequel as well." The technical director didn't just stop at talking about Blood Rain either. "It will be helpful for other projects we develop, I guess, most certainly, because it is given that you will learn something new every time you are dealing with a new device or new platform," he tells me. Now, these words are far from confirmation that Stellar Blade: Blood Rain will be coming to the Switch 2, but it certainly seems that Lee and his team are at least considering it. Edouard Akopcan, head of publishing at Shift Up, had previously tried to skirt the question, asking, "Could GTA 6 be ported to the Switch 2?" Lee's comments to TheGamer feel more inspiring than that. Our full interview with Lee will be available on TheGamer tomorrow.
