Spider-Man's Daughter Spider-Girl Officially Returns to Marvel Canon

Spider-Man's daughter is making a spectacular return to Marvel canon at the end of this year, and she's going to show off her superhero pedigree with a 1-v-1 fight fans didn't know they wanted until now: Spider-Girl vs. Spider-Gwen. It is a fitting match-up, because in a sense, Spider-Gwen has come to occupy the role in the modern Marvel Universe landscape that should have been Spider-Girl's. By any metric, Mayday Parker should be an A-list hero today, but she was sidelined by Marvel decades ago, and despite sporadic appearances, has never caught on since. Whether this latest appearance will be a one-shot, or the start of something more for Mayday, is something Spider-fans will have to wait until December to find out. That said, Marvel is promising that "the Multiverse will never be the same" coming out of this story. Ushering in a new era for Spider-Girl as a prominent player in Marvel, even at the Multiversal level if not in mainstream Marvel continuity, would certainly fit that bill. Marvel Is Bringing Back Its Greatest Lost Character: Mayday Parker, Spider-Girl Spider-Man: Incursions #1 drops in early December. Here is Marvel's short, official synopsis for the issue: THE CATACYLSMS THAT BIRTHED SECRET WARS! Spider-Gwen vs. Spider-Girl! Gwen Stacy the Ghost-Spider meets Mayday Parker, Spider-Girl when Earth-65 and Earth-982 collide! The Multiverse will never be the same! This will perk up the ears of longtime Marvel fans and hardcore Spider-Man lore heads. It isn't just that this is Spider-Girl's latest appearance. This is the reappearance of a classic version of Spider-Girl, who has fallen by the wayside, but could be prepared for a major Marvel canon comeback. "Earth-982" is the designation for what was once called the "MC2 Universe." That stood for "Marvel Comics 2." This was Marvel's late 1990s attempt at an ongoing alternate continuity, akin to the Ultimate Universe that launched in the early 2000s. The longest-running MC2 book was Spider-Girl, which lasted for #100 issues and wrapped up in 2006. In fact, the entire MC2 project spun out of a Marvel "What If?", which itself was the result of one of '90s Marvel's most controversial creative decisions: killing off Peter and Mary Jane Parker's baby daughter Mayday. May was dropped as a character in Marvel's main continuity, but resurrected in her own MC2 book. Though this version of Spider-Girl has popped back up occasionally, Mayday's heyday was over 20 years ago now. Despite the fact that she proved herself as a viable legacy hero and successor to the OG Spider-Man. Time has seemingly passed May Parker by, but now her Incursions appearance could kick off a renaissance. 20 Years After Her Solo Series Ended, May Parker Could Be Ready For Another Major Marvel Run However Spider-Man: Incursions #1 plays out, it will be a thrill for Spider-fans to get reacquainted with Earth-982 Spider-Girl. She's one of Marvel's most underserved and underutilized characters of the past two decades. Something that is made all the more noteworthy because of her especially messy publication history. Bringing adult Mayday Parker into the mainstream Marvel Universe, which is a possible outcome of Incursions, would be a generational gamechanger for Spider-Man canon. The field of Spider-heroes is much more crowded than when Mayday first suited up in the MC2 timeline, but after all these years, Spider-Man's daughter could still prove to be the greatest of them all, if given the opportunity by Marvel.
