Spain’s Impulse Cinema and Italy’s Fandango Forge Strategic Partnership to Boost Co-Production and Sales Opportunities (EXCLUSIVE)

Spanish indie studio Impulse Cinema and Italy’s Fandango have forged a strategic partnership to boost Spanish and Italian productions through co-production, financing, distribution and global sales. The agreement was announced on Saturday at the Venice Production Bridge, the Venice Film Festival‘s market focused on film production. Impulse Cinema, which is headed by Andrés Sánchez Pajares and Roberto Butragueño, is Spain‘s first large-scale integrated indie studio that operates across the entire value chain — from development financing and co-production to international distribution and worldwide sales. The Madrid-based company is supported by the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) under the NextGenerationEU program, under which it has tapped into €8 million ($9.3 million) in funding. Popular on Variety Impulse Cinema and its studios provide financing, co-production, distribution and international sales services, plus access to state-of-the-art production infrastructure, including image processing laboratories, sound post-production facilities, visual effects services and, of course, soundstages for Spanish and international film and TV projects. Domenico Procacci’s Fandango is among Italy’s leading indie film production and distribution companies with more than 100 movies to its credit since it launched in 1989. Fandango is at Venice, in different guises, with five titles, including Nanni Moretti’s “It Happened One Night” and Marco Bechis’ “Back to Buenos Aires,” both in competition. Besides involving production, the partnership between Impulse Cinema also covers international distribution of Italian and international films with Impulse participating as a partner, working alongside Fandango Sales on global sales. “Today, more than ever, European independent cinema needs new collaborative models to help ambitious projects grow and reach wider international audiences,” said Fandango founder and chief Domenico Procacci in a statement. “By combining our respective expertise and investment capacity, we can offer independent producers stronger support while allowing them to develop their projects with greater autonomy.” “This collaboration will create new opportunities for the projects in which Fandango is involved, helping outstanding films fulfil both their artistic ambitions and commercial potential,” he added. Sánchez Pajares and Butragueño commented: “Italy is home to one of Europe’s most respected and creative film industries, and Fandango is one of its leading companies. Through this partnership, we aim to build a lasting bridge between our two countries by making our innovative studio model available for outstanding film projects and supporting their international growth. We firmly believe that closer collaboration between producers, distributors and investors across Europe is essential to making our industry more competitive on the global stage.”
