He has visited OEM facilities as far and wide as Bristol, Toulouse, and Seattle, and recently enjoyed the milestone of flying his 150th sector as a passenger. Based in Norfolk, UK. Last week, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant was tragically found dead in Hawaii, after reportedly falling 24 floors from the balcony of her hotel room while staying in the city of Honolulu on a layover. Jenny Lupton was 50 years old, and her family are asking for an investigation into her death, as they do not believe that she would have taken her own life. She leaves behind a 15-year-old son, Kaleb. Lupton had worked as a member of cabin crew at Southwest Airlines for more than two decades, and her niece had also followed her into the profession. After her body was found by a hotel employee, it reportedly took a day for news of Lupton's death to reach her family. Hawaii is an important market for Southwest Airlines, with the carrier operating both inter-island services and flights to the mainland. News 9 notes that she had been in contact with her sister by text just hours beforehand, having been out to get the outline of a new tattoo shortly before her death. Lupton was reportedly staying in Honolulu for several days after having been in Hawaii for work, and she would have had the tattoo's outline filled in upon her return home to Moore, Oklahoma. Following the discovery of her body, medical professionals determined that her injuries were consistent with a fall from height: in this case, the 24th-floor balcony at the hotel where she had been staying over. Simple Flying has reached out to Southwest Airlines for more information on this incident. We will update our coverage upon receiving a response from the carrier. They remain adamant that her fall would not have been self-inflicted, with her sister telling KFOR that "it was either some kind of freak accident or someone harmed her." As such, Lupton's sister and other relatives are pushing for a more thorough investigation into her death, saying that "we just want to know what happened." She had worked as a flight attendant at Southwest Airlines for more than two decades, and, in recent years, had even shared trips to cities such as San Diego with her niece, Hannah Lupton, who had followed her aunt into the cabin crew profession. Hannah went on to say that Jenny "was truly the best aunt anyone could have asked for," adding that "she was the light of every party, the person who could make a room brighter simply by being in it [and] had a personality that was impossible to forget." For the Lupton family, the next steps will be all about finding closure in what they hope will be a comprehensive investigation as they process their grief. Hawaii Is An Important Market For Southwest Airlines Credit: Shutterstock While the US mainland dominates Southwest Airlines' operations, Hawaii has become an increasingly important market for the carrier in recent years. Indeed, present scheduling data made available by Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows that, this August, it has penciled in a grand total of 2,744 flights to and from airports in Hawaii, with these services collectively offering a whopping 480,200 seats. Both of these figures represent 4.4% year-on-year increases compared to August of 2025. Interestingly, however, the number of available seat miles has grown even faster, at a rate of 10.9%, suggesting that the flights that have been added are longer than average. Southwest's top inter-island Hawaiian route is Honolulu (HNL) to Kahului (OGG), with eight flights a day each way for most of August 2026.
