As rumored, Sony is reviving its WH-1000XM4 headphones with a new WH-1000XM4C reboot, bringing some new colors to a much more affordable entry to the market compared to the company’s flagship. Sony’s flagship headphones are very good, but they’re also pricey. The current WH-1000XM6 retails for $460, though you can often save when buying on deals. But, now, Sony has a more affordable entry in this lineup with the new WH-1000XM4C. This is a reboot of Sony’s 2020 flagship, which was equipped with USB-C and all of the sound and ANC you’d expect from a high-end pair of over-ear headphones. What’s new? Not a whole lot. Sony says to expect the same overall ANC and audio performance, but with the “latest sound tuning.” The hardware is mostly identical, though with new colors including Lavender, Black, and Platinum Silver. They’re available for $299, well below Sony’s current flagship and in line with competitors such as Nothing Headphone (1). It’s borderline impossible to get a brand new pair of WH-1000XM4 nowadays, and even on the used market, you’re still spending around $250 or so in some cases. You might be able to find WH-1000XM5 for less – Amazon has frequent sales – but it’s likely these will see discounts in time too. Beyond this, Sony is also introducing WH-CH730N and WH-CH530N as even more affordable over-ear headphones. At $179 and $69, they won’t deliver quite the same sound or ANC, but the value is there for certain. All three pairs support Fast Pair on Android. WH-1000XM4C will be later this month, with current shipping estimates on pre-orders landing around September 30, while the other two are launching this month.
