Creativity rarely begins with trying harder. More often, it starts with paying attention: looking up, slowing down, and giving the moment enough space to become an idea. That belief is at the heart of the Pixel 11. The newest model in Google Pixel’s lineup is designed to reduce complexity and make it easier to capture and experience the moment without unnecessary interruption. Google Pixel’s annual Residency gives its closest creative network the chance to create in exactly that way. The idea is simple. Get them to step away from everyday life, find their flow in creative activities, and let Pixel enhance the experience with ease so they can stay fully present. For this year’s event, the brand brought 45 creators from around the world to Château de Fonscolombe in Provence for a three-day, activity-filled agenda best experienced by living in the moment.Highsnobiety / Milena Zara, Highsnobiety / Julien TellThe trip began with a communal dinner overlooking the immaculate grounds and lavender fields, bringing the group together for the first time in a true Provençal setting. The next morning, depending on their curated itineraries, some of the group woke at the crack of dawn and headed out for a hot-air balloon ride. As the morning fog dissipated, they rose into the sky to catch the first rays of sunshine lighting up the vineyards below. The Pixel’s 120x zoom was the ideal camera tool, allowing creators to capture the world below, in remarkable detail.Back on solid ground, a series of artisanal workshops within the château grounds encouraged creators to roll up their sleeves and make something physical. Designer Gerrit Jacob hosted an airbrushing workshop, food artist Imogen Kwok turned local ingredients into a lesson in culinary composition, and designer and maker Phil Cuttance helped creators mix colors and scents to create one-off soap sculptures.Highsnobiety / Milena Zara, Highsnobiety / Julien Tell, Highsnobiety / Milena ZaraWhile these hands-on workshops put the focus on the physical process of manual craft, Pixel was there to support ideation, experimentation, and, of course, capture it all. Creators used Google Gemini to explore colors and designs before customizing long-sleeved shirts and socks, and also to get suggestions for scent combinations for their soaps.Beyond the château, the program moved through Provence at several different speeds. Some creators took a trip to the quaint village of Lourmarin in vintage Citroën 2CVs. Winding through the countryside with the roof down, complete with Gerrit Jacob headscarves. Others opted for a slower route through the landscape on horseback. Pixel’s Magic Capture became their best friend. Probably one of the phone’s most impressive features, it lets you capture stills and video simultaneously. The action-packed schedule allowed for slower moments, too. Yoga and breathwork opened the mornings, while Olympian Chari Hawkins led a guided walk focused on movement and recovery. A dedicated Google Health space offered Fitbit insights alongside functional juices, a charm bar for personalized accessories, and the chance to discover the new Metal Mesh band.Highsnobiety / Milena Zara, Highsnobiety / Milena ZaraAcross the three days, each experience called for creators to be fully present in the task at hand. The variety of settings, locations, and activities offered endless opportunities to experiment with a range of the phone’s features, which inspired rather than obstructed creativity.By the end of the trip, the technology had recorded every moment, but it was being present, with the people, in the workshops, and out in nature, that gave those moments something to say. That’s the idea at the heart of Pixel. It shouldn’t be a distraction from the moment, but a conduit for creativity and for living fully in it with those around you.
