After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. The server currently has ~5,000 players live (~2,000 free roam, ~400 in races). If the recent rise in AI-powered videogame decompilation and porting has taught me anything, it's that people can now bring back the glory days of when the online mode for their favorite game worked. For example, one person holds Need for Speed: Underground 2 so close to their heart that they took someone's port of the game and made it work in a browser using Claude, complete with online multiplayer. Need for Speed: Underground 2 gets a Claude-coded browser port You can give it a spin right now As spotted by Notebook Check, someone called th0mk has released Underground 2 Revived, a port of the Need for Speed game designed to run in your browser. To get the job done, th0mk made use of NFSU2Recomp, a separate repo from TalhaMudo that brought the game over to Apple Silicon Macs. Using NFSU2Recomp as a base, th0mk got it working within the browser with the aid of Claude Code. The number of features th0mk managed to get working within the browser is pretty impressive. They claim that it runs just fine on either Chrome or Firefox, and contains "up to 120 fps in widescreen, free roam and Online races with friends, and controllers, wheels and touch controls." If you'd like to give it a try, head over to the Underground 2 Revived website. There's an automatic check to ensure your PC and browser can run the game, so be sure to follow any warnings that pop up. At the time of writing, ~5,000 people were playing on the server, with ~2000 people in free roam and ~400 in races and lobbies, so you won't be left with nobody to race with.
