Someone made a sleek Steam Machine faceplate using the same marble Michelangelo used for his work

These thin 5-6mm slabs attach via magnets on a 3D-printed mount for a flawless fit. Fortunately, Valve's console is open to customization, including turning it into a Companion Cube. However, one person has stepped forward to show off their immaculate marble faceplates, and you can register your interest for one right now. This Steam Machine marble faceplate uses the same material that Michelangelo used And it looks amazing to boot Over on the Steam Machine subreddit, user GinoWT is showing off what they're making. They're putting the changeable Steam Machine faceplate to good use by making really sleek-looking marble plates for it. GinoWT says their day job involves making marble decorations for superyachts in Carrara, so they have some leftovers spare with which they can create these lovely-looking accessories. They also use their superyacht design know-how to make a slab of marble stick to a Steam Machine. Each slab is 5-6mm thick, and uses magnets mounted on a 3D-printed structure to get it to stick to the console itself. The end result may not be as practical as the e-ink display (which you can make your own e-ink faceplate if you like), but it sure looks amazing. Right now, they have three options available: Sahara Noir (the black one with a gold line through it), Roman travertine (the one with small pits in it), and, arguably the most interesting one, Statuario. GinoWT says their Statuario is the same marble Michelangelo used, which, fortunately, does not mean they took a chunk out of David to make this plate. What it does mean is that the marble was sourced from a quarry in Carrara, where the famous artist got his supply from. If you're interested in one, GinoWT has a website where you can register your interest. They'll send over a price and shipping quote once they're ready, and I can't imagine it'll be very cheap. However, it makes for an amazing talking point, or a perfect setpiece for your superyacht.
