Lions Player Jack Campbell Hospitalized With Neck Injury After Being Unable to Move on FieldThe soccer world is reeling after a devastating accident. Spain’s Jesús de Miguel, who was a center striker for CD Tenerife, died at the age of 30 after being struck in the chest during the team’s match against FC Andorra on Nov. 2. “Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats, and unable to believe this is true,” de Miguel’s team shared on their official website Nov. 3, translated from Spanish, “CD Tenerife announces the tragic passing of Jesús de Miguel Alameda.” The statement continued, “There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this profound sense of sorrow. We stand with his devastated family, his loved ones, and the entire Tenerife community, who today mourn this cruel outcome.” The accident occurred during the last few seconds of the Spanish second division match. While chasing the ball near the field’s halfway line, de Miguel collided with Andorra’s goalkeeper Jesús Owono. As Owono tried to clear the ball at speed, the goalkeeper—who had moved far out from the goal—accidentally struck de Miguel in the chest with his knee. The move earned him an immediate red card and he was ejected from the game, however, Owono made his way back onto the pitch after the severity of de Miguel’s injuries became clear. The striker had gone down clutching his chest before lying motionless on the pitch. While medical staff treated de Miguel for more than minutes on the field, per Reuters, he was eventually rushed to a local hospital for additional treatment where he later passed away. CD Tenerife noted that the family of de Miguel—who had welcomed a daughter with his wife in 2025—was grateful for “every single gesture of support received,” however they also “earnestly request the utmost respect for their privacy in this terrible moment.” Following de Miguel’s death, FC Andorra shared a statement expressing their grief. (As of the morning of Nov. 3, per CNN, Owono had deactivated his Instagram account.)Andres Gutierrez/Anadolu via Getty Images“Devastated and with broken hearts,” the team wrote on social media, “we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife. Rest in peace.” Meanwhile, the president of CD Tenerife Felipe Miñambres detailed the organization’s devastation. “We are all going through very difficult moments now, of sadness and of not believing what happened,” he told Reuters. “But we’ll go through the mourning all together, and we’ll be with all the people going through this feeling that should make us be more together.”For the latest breaking news updates, click here to download the E!
