Editor's note: The below contains spoilers for Slow Horses Season 6 Episode 3. One thing that will never change about Apple TV's Slow Horses is the show's ability to deliver non-stop action. The spy thriller premiered its sixth season in September, and within just the first three episodes, the high-stakes storylines are already keeping viewers on the edge of their seats. Past and present Slough House agents are being hunted by a villainous pair of assassins, and each scene feels even more intense than the last. But there's one character in Slow Horses who's undergoing a massive change, and you'll never guess who it is. Emma Flyte Is One of the Toughest Agents in 'Slow Horses' When Emma Flyte (Ruth Bradley) first came onto the scene in Slow Horses Season 4, she served as an intriguing new presence for the series. Her position is the "Head Dog" for MI5 operations, and she is chosen by former Director-General Claude Whelan (James Callis) to replace Nick Duffy (Chris Reilly), who is left brain-dead and in a coma after the events of Season 3. Emma is an intriguing, no-nonsense agent who's sparred with every one of the Slow Horses, particularly Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), who always seems to delight in ruffling her feathers. She's typically exasperated at having to deal with the dysfunctional team at Slough House, but she always remains professional no matter what. After Whelan was ousted as First Desk in Season 5, Flyte became Diana Taverner's (Kristin Scott Thomas) second-in-command, but now there seems to be trouble brewing from within. Is Emma Flyte Officially Becoming a Member of Slough House? In Season 6, Flyte is already expressing disapproval about several of Taverner's tactics. After Taverner refuses to tell Lamb about one of his former agents, Struan Loy (Paul Higgins), being murdered in the premiere, Flyte goes behind First Desk's back and informs Lamb anyway, which allows Lamb to realize that his agents are actually being targeted. Taverner discovers Flyte's insubordination, but the final straw occurs in Episode 3. For her, the worst thing you can do is question her motives, and Flyte doesn't understand why Taverner has done a televised interview, which has left both her position and MI5 at large vulnerable. Flyte tries to address her confusion about this turn of events, but Taverner can't tell her the real reason she went on the show — blackmail — so she tries to wrest back power the only way she knows how. In order to gain the upper hand, she says that she's not firing Flyte altogether, but is offering a "lateral move": Flyte is being relegated to Slough House instead. This begs the question: will Flyte actually quit her job, or will she have to swallow her pride and join Lamb and the team? It'd be a fantastic move for the show to put this polished, successful agent with the messy, hapless gang at Slough House. It might seem impossible that Flyte could fit in with the crew, but she does already employ a special brand of sarcasm that would match the rest of the Slow Horses. She's also a devoted agent, and stops at nothing to achieve justice. Even though the Slough House members might get there clumsily, they always end up on the right side of things, saving the day in the end. Perhaps Flyte would actually benefit from having more freedom than she did under Whelan or Taverner. There are only three episodes left this season, so it will be interesting to see what transpires before the finale. Will Flyte give up the life of service she's so carefully crafted? Will she somehow worm her way back into Taverner's good graces, or will she have to learn how to put up with the irascible, slovenly Lamb and his merry band of misfits? Is she in even more danger now that current and former members of Slough House are being targeted? No matter what happens, this storyline is a perfect route for a character who's already found small ways to work with the Slow Horses from her first appearance. Slow Horses Season 6 is available to stream on Apple TV in the U.S. New episodes drop every Wednesday. Slow Horses Release Date April 1, 2022 Network Apple TV+ Showrunner Douglas Urbanski
