Skate Developer Wishes The Team Took “An Extra Year” To Make It

As Skate Gets Its Namesake Mode After More Than A Year, Former Developer Wishes It Had Been Delayed Published Nov 6, 2026, 7:00 AM EST George is the Lead News Editor for TheGamer, and has been working in the industry since 2021 after graduating from the University of South Wales with a bachelor's degree in Journalism. He has also previously written for RPG Site, WhatCulture, and PlayStation Lifestyle. George is an expert on platformers, action games, and fighters, but tends to play as many releases as possible. This hands-on experience lets him dive into gaming communities and follow the latest trends. Some of the games George has extensively covered first-hand include Dead Rising, Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero, Assassin's Creed Shadows, and Ninja Gaiden 4. A former developer on Skate has admitted they wish the team were allowed at least one more year to work on the game instead of it being pushed out into early access. Although it’s not quite at the heights of Half-Life 3 or anything, a new Skate game is something that fans of the classic trilogy spent years begging EA for. After all, there was an entire decade between the launch of Skate 3 and the long-awaited confirmation that a brand new game was being developed in 2020. Even with all of that hype and a pretty generous five years of development, it’s fair to say that the Skate reboot didn’t come close to living up to the anticipation. While it had strong mechanics and some good additions to the formula, the always-online focus, monetisation, slow rollout of features, and more ended up holding it back. In fact, even former developers wish it wasn’t released in the state it was. Skate Developer Thinks EA Should Have Given It More Time “Preach” Earlier today, the official Skate account announced that the series’ namesake mode, S.K.A.T.E, is finally being added to the game on December 1. That means it’s taken more than a whole year to add a mode that’s synonymous with both the franchise and skating games in general, something that fans were quick to point out. The post even drew the attention of Adrian Campos, a former developer on the game who worked as as senior environment review artist before unfortunately being let go at the start of this year. Campos retweeted the S.K.A.T.E trailer and said, “Ngl I wish we took an extra year to make the game”, seemingly in reference to how long the mode has taken to get added. Campos went on to agree with a comment pointing out how wild it is for a Skate game to launch without S.K.A.T.E , noting that the extra time would have resulted in a “more complete product”. One fan said that they thought the team was further along in development since it took five years from the announcement, and Campos agreed, noting, “Believe me when I got there I thought they were too”. Skate somehow still doesn’t even have a Hall of Meat mode, which is something that fans have been begging for from the very start. Skate players have made it very clear since early access started that the game simply wasn’t ready to be released, let alone while stuffed with so much monetisation, but it’s surprising to hear a developer wholeheartedly agree. The genie is sadly out of the bottle now, but let’s hope Skate at least has enough time to get to 1.0. skate.
