Another man then explains how the group has laid a trap to send soldiers falling off a cliff if they try to access the shelter. He reportedly tells the camera: “Yesterday we blocked the path here so the soldiers can’t come from above. The man points to rocks laid over a piece of cardboard over a sheer drop. “We set a trap for them on the path, we put these loose rocks over cardboard,” he says, according to La Razon. The shocking video comes as newly released docs revealed that Spanish intelligence services had warned of social media calls for a mass crossing the day before tens of thousands swam and charged into Ceuta in late July. Spain‘s socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez insisted that the border breach had been impossible to predict. But opposition parties claimed the documents prove the government misled the public. They uncovered a warning given by the country’s National Intelligence Service (CNI) to Moroccan and Ceuta authorities. Police and central government representation in Ceuta were also warned about the messages. The report warned that social media groups reaching some 180,000 people were encouraging migrants to cross the following day. One such message read: “Whoever wants to cross has the last chance on Throne Day [30 July] at 8 the authorities will be distracted with the celebrations and parades.” At least 100 people died during the crossing. Sánchez had told the Spanish parliament that there was “no information that conveyed the magnitude” of the “crisis we were going to suffer”. As many as 5,000 migrants are still in the Spanish exclave, many sleeping in structures like the one shown in the video. Others have attempted to cross to mainland Spain by sneaking onto ferries, with one astonishing video showing two men grappling up a rope minutes before a ferry was due to depart.
