Shocking moment fairground riders are left dangling upside down 50ft in air after ride suddenly stops at Oktoberfest

THRILL-SEEKERS were left hanging in mid-air after a fairground ride froze at its highest point. The terrifying moment happened on the Predator ride at Munich’s Oktoberfest in Bavaria, southern Germany, when it was marking its 191st festival. They also appeared to connect a cable to the machinery before scaling back down the ladder. Paramedics from Aicher Ambulanz said that those onboard had been hanging upside down for around five minutes. Emergency services rushed to the scene but passengers had already managed to disembark from the ride. A handful of people complained of experiencing mild dizziness and circulation issues due to being suspended. Everyone on the ride was examined briefly and deemed fit before resuming their day of fun at the festival. What caused the malfunction remains unclear. Most read in The Sun But an expert from the local fire department inspected the ride after its technical hiccup and it resumed operation later in the same evening. The festival’s medical team handled nearly 600 cases on their opening night, with 10 people undergoing CT scans and two others hospitalised, according to reports. The Predator’s capacity can hold 40 people at once and lifts its gondolas up to around 16 metres. The platforms rotate in one direction while its gondolas spin in the other, reaching speeds of up to 60km per hour. It gives those on the ride the same experience “as in a rocket launch”, exerting a force of 30 and 40 metres per second, according to the Oktoberfest website. They added: “By way of comparison, that’s about ten times the force exerted on a person in a car.” The German showmen family business, Kaiser, bought the ride between 2013 to 2014, before it underwent a complete redesign.
