Sheikh Joaan toured the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 media centres with IOC President Kirsty Coventry and met young reporters covering the Asian Games.Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), visited the Main Press Centre and International Broadcast Centre for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan.Joined by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry, Sheikh Joaan toured the facilities and operational sections of both centres, reviewing the technical equipment, modern technologies and systems used for content production, broadcast operations and media coverage of the Games.The tour also included workspaces, studios and broadcasting facilities, as well as services provided to media personnel arriving from across Asia and around the world. The facilities are designed to support journalists and broadcasters covering one of the continent’s largest sporting events.Sheikh Joaan and Coventry also met nine young reporters participating in an OCA programme as part of the “Asian Games for All” initiative. They spoke with the reporters about their experiences covering the Games and the programme’s role in developing the next generation of sports journalists through practical experience at the continental event.The visit coincides with the opening of the 20th Asian Games, where Qatar is represented by a 427-member delegation, including 243 athletes. Team Qatar is competing in 26 sports and 32 disciplines through 18 national federations.The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games run until October 4, bringing together around 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions.The Games also come four years before Doha hosts the Asian Games for a third time in 2030. Qatar previously hosted the continental competition in 2006 and is preparing to welcome it back to the capital in December 2030.To mark Qatar’s participation in Aichi-Nagoya 2026, the QOC has also opened Qatar House at the TIAD Nagoya Hotel, showcasing the country’s culture, sporting history and preparations for Doha 2030.
