Sharmila dismisses reports of political meeting with Jagan

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila | Photo Credit: File photo Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Y.S. Sharmila has rejected reports and speculation linking a possible meeting with her elder brother and YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to political developments or a possible change in her political alignment. In a statement on Tuesday, Ms. Sharmila said reports claiming that she had met certain individuals or was preparing to join another political formation were “completely false”. She described the analyses and claims circulating on social media as baseless and alleged that they were being spread by people with vested interests. She condemned such allegations.Ms. Sharmila said the last time she met Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy was when she invited him to the wedding of her son Y.S. Raja Reddy. If she met her elder brother again now, she said, it would only be to invite him to the wedding of her daughter Y.S. Anjili Reddy. The clarification comes amid preparations for Ms. Anjili Reddy’s wedding to Somala Raghuram Reddy. Ms. Sharmila had announced earlier this month that the marriage had been arranged and sought the blessings and good wishes of friends and well-wishers.Ms. Sharmila said she would invite leaders of all political parties to the wedding, adding that there was nothing unusual or political about extending such invitations. She said she would not use her daughter’s wedding as a cover for any “behind-the-scenes political dealings”.The APCC president also objected to attempts to link a family celebration with political developments. Such narratives, she said, were aimed at damaging her credibility, political integrity and the trust placed in her by the people.A family occasion should not be portrayed as a vehicle for political negotiations, she said.
