Servo's August status report has finally appeared for outlining progress made on this open-source, Rust-based browser engine. This follows the recent release of the Servo 0.6 software, including the Servoshell demo browser. One of the most notable features to have landed recently for Servo is CSS grid support. In turn many more websites are now rendering correctly on Servo. Servo also landed other new features like CSS color-scheme, animation-composition, full-width, text-transform, and more. A number of new DOM APIs are also now in place. On the JavaScript side, Servo pulled in SpiderMonkey 153 for security and crash fixes. Servo also now presents a disk-backed HTTP cache that can be optionally enabled but without any way to clear it at the moment. Servo also sees more work happening around accessibility, prep work toward AudioWorklet, and more. Performance improvements have also been landing for this engine. An experimental "Threadboost" feature is improving the Speedometer benchmark scores by 50%. More details on these recent improvements to the Servo engine via the Servo.org blog.
