Senior Games registration off to strong start

More than 150 people have already registered for track and field at this year’s National Senior Games, with organisers expecting numbers to climb following Saturday’s official launch. Sports advisor Ytannia Wiggins said the Games now feature 25 sporting disciplines and encouraged more Barbadians to register. “The numbers are looking good. We suspect that that will go up after our launch on Saturday,” she said. The launch will feature a motorcade beginning at the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, travelling through several communities and Pelican Village before culminating at Golden Square Freedom Park. There, patrons can expect entertainment, sporting demonstrations and a dance festival featuring activities including line and Latin dancing. The field events final is scheduled for September 19 at Harrison College, while the track final will take place on September 26 at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex. The programme will conclude with the Active Living Festival on October 3, marking the end of the Month of the Elderly. (KH)
