Segway’s Newest Navimow Robomower Has an Edge-Trimming Trapdoor

Segway has announced the Navimow H5 Pro, a new robot mower that navigates with LiDAR, NRTK, and three vision cameras. And, like so many other new robot mowers I saw at IFA 2026, the mower is taking on the problem of true edge trimming by getting a cutting mechanism right up against the side of buildings and sidewalks. Segway approaches edge cutting differently than the others. Instead of an articulating arm like those found on the Eufy Lawn Mower S2 Max and Mammotion Luba A4 AWD, the Navimow H5 Pro opens a trapdoor on its side to let its circular mowing disc slide out and up to edges. According to a representative I spoke with at IFA, Segway did this because it found that string trimmers are noisy and not as efficient as the mowing disc’s blades, and because it thinks this makes the cut more even. © Wes Davis / Gizmodo Besides the new edge-cutting approach, the Navimow H5 Pro has a number of features found on the Navimow X4 series. It’s an all-wheel drive device that’s equipped with what the company calls “Xero-Turn” front wheels, which turn independently of each other and let the robot pivot on its back wheels, spinning in a circle. That design made the Navimow X4 a lot easier on my lawn than the Dreame A3 AWD Pro and its omnidirectional front wheels, which tended to wear bald patches in some areas. The Navimow H5 Pro can climb and descend up-to-80% slopes and cross obstacles up to 6cm high, as well, and each of its four wheels can drive independently of each other. © Wes Davis / Gizmodo Also like the Navimow X4, the Navimow H5 Pro features three vision cameras that help with navigation and obstacle detection. There’s also an infrared sensor, which the company says can detect small animals, even at night. It has onboard NRTK satellite navigation, so, thankfully, it shouldn’t require installing an RTK antenna in the middle of a lawn. The addition of LiDAR sets it apart from the Navimow X4 and should make it a much more versatile mower, as it won’t rely so heavily on satellite connectivity. © Wes Davis / Gizmodo Unfortunately, like all of the other robotic mowers that have been announced this week, the Navimow H5 Pro has no U.S. release timeline, thanks to the FCC’s ban on foreign-made robotic devices. That means no pricing, either, of course.
