The curiosity into secretive semiconductor startup Rosaic Labs builds. Earlier this year it was noted that Intel was providing Rosaic Labs with access to its Atom technology with RTL code. There have also been rather mysterious x86 additions not from Intel or AMD (or Zhaoxin / Hygon) that given the timing may pertain to Rosaic Labs. News today is that Rosaic recently hired a long-time, Linux x86 developer veteran. None other than Hans Peter Anvin is now working for Rosaic Labs. H. Peter Anvin has been working on Linux since 1992, co-maintainer to the Linux x86/x86_64 code, creator of SYSLINUX, and other accomplishments over his long history of open-source development. H. Peter Anvin had been working for Intel since 2008 on Linux x86 under their former Open-Source Technology Center efforts. I was tipped off today that H. Peter Anvin "HPA" was reportedly laid off from Intel this summer amid their ongoing corporate restructuring. He is now working for the mysterious Rosaic Labs. Confirmation of Anvin at Rosaic Labs was made today on the Linux kernel mailing list with acknowledging the patches to begin removing the Linux x32 ABI with: "Acked-by: H. Peter Anvin (Rosaic)" This is the first time on the Linux kernel mailing list he's signed off with this Rosaic association. With HPA now working for Rosaic Labs makes me all the more intrigued by this start-up and a good indicator for the future Linux support on Rosaic processors.
