Sarajevo: Were There Really Sniper Safaris?

Claims that wealthy Europeans paid to shoot at civilians during the siege of Sarajevo in the 1990s have made international headlines. Did it really happen?While the Bosnian capital was under siege, wealthy Europeans are alleged to have paid to shoot at civilians from Bosnian Serb sniper posts. These serious allegations have caused a stir in the media and triggered several investigations – but there is still no conclusive evidence. In collaboration with the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network, ARTE examined the allegations.This programme is produced by the European platform ARTE and available in 10 languages through the European media partnership BEAM. The hub is coordinated by ARTE and includes Balkan Insight (BIRN), Sinopsis (BIRN Romania), El País (ES), Gazeta Wyborcza (PL), Internazionale (IT), Ir (LV), Kathimerini (GR), Le Soir (BE) and Telex (HU). The partnership receives EU-funding following DG CNECT’s call for European Media Hubs within the framework of the EU’s Multimedia Actions.
