Samara Weaving has joined the growing bold-faced cast of Naughty, a holiday comedy that Olivia Wilde is directing for Universal Pictures. Weaving joins a call sheet that already includes Jennifer Aniston, Peter Dinklage, Chase Sui Wonders, Regina Hall and Ike Barinholtz. Wilde is directing the feature as her follow-up to the biting relationship comedy she helmed, The Invite, which A24 released over the summer. Written as a spec script by Jimmy Warden, the story centers on a mother (Aniston), whose only hope of securing custody of her son from her gaslighting trash-bag ex is to find Santa Claus (Peter Dinklage) and convince him to testify in her divorce hearing. The project has been described by sources as “Bridesmaids in the North Pole.” Wonders and Hall are playing the woman’s best friends while Barinholtz is the trash-bag ex. Weaving will play Barinholtz’s mistress. LuckyChap, the banner run by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, will produce. Wilde and Warden are also producing. Universal has set a Nov. 5, 2027 opening for the comedy. Weaving had two movies release this year – Over Your Dead Body and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come – and made film headlines when she was cast as Emma Frost, aka The White Queen, in Marvel’s new X-Men feature. The latter is due to shoot next spring/summer. She is repped by, CAA, 111 Media and Johnson Shapiro. Executive vp of production development Sara Scott and director of production development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing Naughty for the studio.
