Several months ago, Sam, and two of his daughters … visited for several days.“I have a very strong relationship with all my children, especially given their mother Wendy died in 1996.”In the document, Andrew Wood supported his son moving to an address in Tasmania. He said the property had three bedrooms, and no one else lived there.“The house has internet access and mobile phone coverage, so Sam can work from home and also stay in touch with his legal team,” the documents read.“If Sam is granted bail to live elsewhere in Australia, I am prepared to move and live with him for up to six months as required to help him get back on his feet.”In another document, someone supporting Wood wrote they had known him since 1999.“In about 2000, Sam moved to Victoria to study. Since then, Sam and his family have stayed … for family occasions, including Christmas, birthdays, and holidays ... I have attended his business functions and family gatherings [in Melbourne],” the document read. The person said they were willing to act as a surety in the amount of $1 million. They said they were willing to act as a surety because they knew Wood would “abide by his bail conditions and attend court proceedings when required”.In another document filed in support of Wood’s application, they talked of regular gatherings with Wood.“When Sam was growing up in Hobart, I saw him frequently as I had a close personal relationship with his mother Wendy (now deceased) and his father Andrew. We had regular … gatherings, including birthdays and Christmas,” the statement reads.“Before Sam was arrested, I saw him around four to five times over seven years.“I will be there for … Sam whenever he requests support and do not doubt there will be plenty of catch-ups. He is most welcome to my home.”In another document, someone wrote they had “followed his achievements and career with great interest ... After the birth of Sam’s three children, the opportunities to see Sam were more limited”.Another person said Wood comes to their house at least once a year.“We try to have extended family gatherings at Christmas time. We speak fairly often, and I would also visit Sam in Melbourne from time to time.”In denying bail last Friday, Justice Patrick McCafferty said before the alleged incident, Wood had consumed several drinks at dinner, before an argument broke out at the apartment over his wife wanting to pack.Sam Wood has so far failed in his bid to be released on bail.AAPIMAGEMcCafferty said Wood had allegedly become angry.“An argument commenced, not with [Snezana] but the other person [daughter Eve Markoski Wood] who was a witness to the events,” he said.“That is said to have, according to the witness, to involve ... saying she and the witness can ‘both die, I’m going to send you back to your family’.”Soon after, Wood allegedly advanced on Eve, prompting Snezana to intervene. The couple went back into bedroom, where Eve reported hearing her mother’s voice become muffled and described hearing gasping.Snezana alleges her husband grabbed her by the throat, and she was unable to breathe.“[Snezana] ended up on the floor. The applicant was still holding her throat, and the complainant alleges was choking her,” McCafferty said.He said she told police her head was banged against the floor and skirting boards. After this, Snezana was seen by Eve to be sitting against the hallway, slumped forward, holding her neck.Start the day with a summary of the day’s most important and interesting stories, analysis and insights.
