Salman reviews Ranveer's Dhurandhar performance, calls him secure actor on Koffee

Actor Salman Khan, in an episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9, praised actor Ranveer Singh for his performance in the Dhurandhar franchise. He applauded the actor for holding back his trademark high energy to meet the demands of his character. The superstar also spoke about Ranbir Kapoor's performance in Animal, saying the two actors brought different strengths to their respective roles and could not be compared.Salman made the remarks on the opening episode of Karan Johar's iconic chat show, which premiered on JioHotstar on Wednesday. During the rapid-fire round, actor Karisma Kapoor joined KJo and asked Salman to choose between Ranveer's performance in Dhurandhar and Ranbir's turn in Animal.Salman refused to pick one over the other, but went on to explain what impressed him about Ranveer's portrayal of an undercover operative in Aditya Dhar's blockbuster spy thriller."Especially for Ranveer in Dhurandhar, he had to control all his energy. He does everything larger than life, and he had to control that big time. For an actor, that's a huge amount of insecurity that he did not have in the film. He is very secure as an actor and in that role in Dhurandhar," Salman said. Known for his exuberant personality and larger-than-life performances, Ranveer plays Jaskirat Singh Rangi in Dhurandhar, who assumes the identity of Hamza Ali Mazari to infiltrate Karachi's criminal underworld. Salman's assessment highlighted the restraint required to bring the character to life, a departure from the unrestrained energy audiences often associate with the actor. The first film, Dhurandhar, released in theatres on December 5, 2025. It follows Intelligence Bureau chief Ajay Sanyal as he recruits a young man from Pathankot for a deep-cover mission. The sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, released on March 19, 2026, follows Jaskirat's growing influence within Pakistani syndicates as he pursues revenge while confronting wider national security threats. Salman Khan on Ranbir Kapoor's performance in AnimalFurther comparing the performances of Ranbir and Ranveer, the superstar maintained that the two roles called for different approaches. "Two different kinds of performance. You cannot compare any of them," he said.Karisma suggested that Salman was being diplomatic, but he dismissed the idea and explained the distinction between the actors' styles."It is not diplomatic at all. Both are fantastic actors. One has got a tremendous amount of energy. One has got a tremendous amount of intensity. Both have different styles of acting," he clarified.Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Animal hit theatres on December 1, 2023. The film starred Ranbir as Ranvijay Singh, whose complicated relationship with his father, Balbir Singh (Anil Kapoor), drives much of the story. Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri also featured in the film. While Ranbir's performance was marked by the intensity of a character consumed by familial loyalty, obsession and violence, Ranveer's role in Dhurandhar demanded a different kind of transformation.Salman acknowledged both approaches, choosing to celebrate their contrasting strengths than declaring one performance superior to the other. He also reminisced about his early days in Bollywood, shooting around 13 films with Karisma, and saying to Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai simply out of respect for his father, Yash Johar. The 61-year-old also spoke about his love life, growing up in a small room at Galaxy apartment, making relationships in the industry, and turning work into fun.The episode is available on JioHotstar in India.- Ends
