‘Sacrifice made by police martyrs is an enduring inspiration’

He paid floral tributes at the police martyrs memorial.Mr. Shareef said that police personnel worked round the clock to maintain law and order, often spending festivals such as Dasara, Deepavali, Id and Christmas on duty while others celebrated with their families.They also played a vital role in ensuring peace during fairs, public gatherings and protests involving large crowds, he said.Acknowledging the sacrifices made by police families, he said that personnel often stayed away from their loved ones on important occasions to ensure public safety.Their dedication enables people to celebrate festivals and lead their lives in peace, he added.154 rememberedSuperintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu recalled that October 21 is observed annually in memory of 10 Indian police personnel killed in a confrontation with Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh in 1959.He said that tributes are being paid to 154 police personnel who died in the line of duty during the year.Deputy Inspector-General of Police, North Eastern Range, Shantanu Sinha, was present.Police Commissioner S.D. Sharanappa presided over the programme. Police officers and retired personnel paid floral tributes, followed by a three-round gun salute in honour of the martyrs.
