Russian Drone Strikes on Kyiv Spark Fires, Injure 3

At least three people were injured in Kyiv on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 29, as Russian forces launched another drone attack against the Ukrainian capital, causing fires across four districts, according to the State Emergency Service (SES). The SES reported that a drone strike in the Obolon district ignited a fire spanning the second to fifth floors of a 12-story residential building. In the Podil district, firefighters were continuing to battle a blaze at a non-residential building struck by a drone. A fire at an administrative building in the Holosiivskyi district was successfully extinguished, while crews in the Desna district were working to contain a fire that had spread across two hectares of open grass. Saturday evening’s barrage marked the third consecutive day of intense Russian drone attacks on Kyiv and the surrounding region. Deadly explosions in Myla The evening attacks followed a deadly daytime strike on the capital. Earlier on Saturday, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that a two-year-old girl was killed in the Obolon district after a Russian drone crashed into a residential area. According to Klitschko, the total number of people injured in the capital throughout Saturday reached eight. The strikes also followed damage sustained in the Sviatoshyn district during the night of Aug. 28, where two people were injured after drones struck a nine-story apartment building and several private homes. Tkachenko noted that the final number of victims is still being determined as rescue operations and debris removal continue. Tkachenko confirmed that Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, was among those killed after arriving as one of the first responders at the scene. The explosions forced the evacuation of 381 residents, including 59 children, from the immediate area, and damaged approximately 50 residential buildings. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the blasts were triggered when a Russian drone struck an ammunition warehouse at approximately 8:10 p.m. local time on Friday.
