Rockets ‘packed with explosives’ fired at German substation weeks after airport drone plot

A BARRAGE of rockets “packed with explosives” has been fired at a major German substation, reports say. The attempted attack comes just weeks after several explosive-laden drones were found at an airport in Leipzig. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Brandenburg to find the “homemade rockets packed with explosives” at the site. Reports claimed the substation came under fire several times and took multiple hits. Bomb disposal teams raced to the facility before defusing several missiles, local reports say. Authorities confirmed there had been an attempted attack at the substation near the Jänschwalde power plant. The suspected aim of the plot was to cause a blackout at the nearby Jänschwalde coal plant. Police said damage to a power line was first discovered at 8am this morning. Network operator 50Hertz said: “This morning, unknown perpetrators allegedly caused damage to several lines in the 50Hertz transmission network.” “There was a ‘brief interruption of service’. However, all lines are now back in operation. The general power supply is currently unaffected. “50Hertz is working closely with the relevant security authorities to clarify the situation.” It comes after two drones were spotted at Leipzig airport in August – with a third being found a week later.
